i need some help, when im driving and changing back through the gears or sitting at the lights, i rev the engine and when i drop my foot off the pedal, it takes awhile for it to drop back to normal idle speed, it holds the revs at 900 rpm for about a second or two then it drops down to normal idle, ive changed the isc, does it need the throttle body cleaned aswell or is there more to it.
car is a 6 cyl with a manual. cheers any help would be appreciated.

Its that poofter bastard Idle control solenoid, just disconect it and touch up the base idle.
Mine dose it too

yea its been doing it for a while so i put a new idle speed controller, so ill set the base idle and give the throttle body a clean tomorrow. cheers for the help

I bet you changed the isc with one from the wreckers?
I had this issue in my NF fairlane, and I can tell you I swapped the isc 2 times before I found a suitable replacement from a wreckers. They are hard to find in working order from a wreckers. Ask to see all the isc's they have on the shelf and check them out, make sure the spring inside actually works and it clean. Needle in the hey stack but its worth going through the pain looking for a good one, rather than disconnecting it altogether. |

nah i bought one brand new a genuine ford one, pretty expensive to from ford.

Hang on mate.
I just read your first post again, and you said your revs are holding at 900 rpm then dropping after a second or 2 it drops down to normal idle. Thats actually how it works mate. What is it dropping down to after it sits on 900? I might try and reset your base idle and see how that goes, but by the sound of it you dont have any rev hang what so ever. I had rev hang, and it would sit on 1200 rpm and just stay there. Revs would not drop between gear changes in the manual what so ever. Since I got a hold of a good ISC, it does as you describe. |

it drops down to about 650-700 rpm,which is normal idle, i will try and reset the base idle and see if it does anything.

Hi, my manual says base idle is 650-700rpm +- 100rpm so 800rpm is ok. Is another 100rpm all that much of a problem? Start playing around with the engine management may lead to more problems than it is worth? I can't pick 100rpm difference all that well anyway.

if it holds 900 rpm for a honest 1 or 2 seconds? thats not a big problem..
if its not a factory manual??? does it have a manual ecu or a manual j3 chip?? also was the neutral switch connected when the 5 speed was put in?? all of these can have an effect on how well it will idle... |

nah its not a factory manual i put the box, its running a EL XR6 man ecu and everything was connected up when put in but ill check anyway.

i replaced my ics with a wreckers one too, helped for a bit, but now its doing it again, hangs at 1100 then drops to 850, when its hot she hunts a little, but its no big deal i dont think.
