Hi
I have a 93 EB II that has of the last few days been randomly stalling. Basically you are driving along fine and all of a sudden the engine just switches off completely. All the electronics still work in the car. It will not restart when this happens, just turns over with no sign of any spark at all. It is def getting fuel. If the car is left long enough ie a few hours it will start and run fine again for...well a random length of time before it will shut off again. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks! |

Sounds like the coil, or TFI module on the side of the distributor.
They fail when they get hot, once cool they will work again and your car will start. Sounds as though whichever one it is, still works. Should be able to get away with applying some heatsink to the offending part and re-fitting, otherwise replace the part which shouldnt be too expensive anyway.

Thanks for the replies.
Just wondering if this is the part you mean by tfi http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IGNITION-MODULE-CAP-ROTOR-NEW-FOR-EA-EB-ED-EL-DIZI_W0QQitemZ370226044404QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5633311df4&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 If so I will replace TFI and coil I guess and see how it goes. |

id say TFI first. The other test for the coil i've heard is pouring water over it while the engine is on.
You risk the coil giving you a slight blast, but for the most part a very effective way to test it. (water penetrates any cracks and shorts out)
