Check the TFI module. If this is playing it will be agood idea to replace the coil as well. |

If the coil has a crack in it why would you replace anything else but this first, it dosnt take much moisture to cause problems. And it's not an expensive part.

The OP was cozza88, that was his issue. EF_wanabe has another issue with his EA. If the coil is cracked like cozza88, that would be the first thing to do. In EF_wanabe's case, the car develops a miss when it warms up, that is why in this case I agree with Troyman on the TFI module. Gets confusing sometimes keeping up with what is who's problem |

Bahahahaha omg. My bad. I'm sure you can measure the voltage on the tfi to see if it's playing up before you replace it first.
Although I may be wrong. |

ya sorry i pretty well hijacked this thread
so can the GT40-T coil be used ? so if i purchase a dist set up ? would the shafts of the old one need to be re used for reliability issues? |

I'm pretty sure it depends on the condition of the old shafts. I have heard storys of new dizzy shafts stuffing the other shaft (auxiliary shaft maybe- epic mind blank) because the two had worn into each other as they do over time and the new shaft didn't mesh. Safest bet is to replace both but if the old shaft is in good condition re use it.

all this work is scaring me in hospital atm with a dozen broken bones wont be able to walk for anther month -2 weeks so may do my research now on fixing this EA
hmm this is scaring me due to i dont want to stuff up the aux shaft where the gears mesh into the motor due to thats how the oil pump runs in these motors im thinking of new ebay dist set up and either the gt40-t coil of it works or just a generic $30 coil which is for the application |

All you need to do with the new dizzy is to take the drive gear off the old dizzy, remove the gear on the new dizzy and fit the old Drive gear to the new dizzy. They are only held on by a pin, knock the pin out, slide off the gear, slide on the replacement gear and tap the pin in. Use a pin punch and a small hammer to remove the pin and vic versa. As for the Coil, use a Bosch one. |

bit of topic but if its a fuel issue all it could be left is the injectors and the Fuel pressure regulator
can i drop a rail in from a EF/EL / anything else as it maybe be a little more common to find |

Bring your timing mark around till it lines up with TDC, take off your dizzy car, the rotor button should be pointing to No1 contact, if not rotate the motor another revolution. Make with a scriber where the dizzy lines up and pull her out, installation is the reverse and as long as you line up you mark you will be right.
