I cant find any info on the factory twin exhaust tickford used on the early XR6's. I know alot of people don't like them but they apparently have good flow, low back pressure and cure the drone type roar between 1500-2500rpm the single sports systems have. My idea was to cut extractors where it goes 2 into 1 and run to pipes side by side, only problem is O2 sensor and two cats will be needed

If anyone has any info on design of tickford twin system or any pics would be really appreciated

They went single entry into the cat, single exit into a Y piece, then twin to the diff, with a single exit.

I know this isn't much help, but this link has a picture of underneath the car showing the 2 mufflers before the diff..

A X-Force 2.5in mandrel Bent sports exhaust with 2 high flow mufflers will out perform that old school setup. Was going to modify the 4499's with longer secondaries but after talking to a exhaust fitter. He modified my pacemakers and 2.5in high flow cat to perform well.

Thanks for the info guys

I don't want an xforce system, tickford twin system might be old school to you but there is a reason they used it, i don't like the drone like roar down low big single systems have

With a better designed Y pipe good mufflers and no join over diff instead two tail pipe one on each side will have good flow and good sound and how good would twin tail pipes look

the rear/over diff section and middle section look identical to the factory XR8 Sprint setup.

WILDEB your dead rite just had a look at EL no way at all for a pipe on left side, fuel tank is in the way, my EB XR6 had single system when i bought it but it has a hanger for left hand tail pipe. Looks like i will have to run 2 tail pipes on right hand side

i have seen it done but the person had it running behind the fuel tank in the bumper. sounds like to much hassle. plus they had no heat shields. mmmmmm yummy melting fuel tank and bumper

The factory system joins back into one pipe at the diff... theres no real point in splitting it then joining it again as I'd imagine the pipe size wouldnt be bigger than 2.5" press bent anywhere thru the system.

It's a twin 2 1/4 inch, if its same system as fitted to XR8 sprint i should have no problems finding good aftermarket tail pipes so it doen't join back into one pipe at diff

If you wanted 2 outlets, you could probably fit 2 x 2inch pipes over the diff & exit on the stock side of the car. But the petrol tank is in the way in sedan's from EA -> EL to have a pipe either side of the car.

I don't have much drone at all now that i have a resonator fit, before i just had the single 2.5" straight thru muffler, there was lots of drone. If your that worried about drone, fit some more sound deadening to ya car!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
