I recently missed out on a group buy on AFF for magnaflow cats, 2.5"s were going for $165. I then found these on eBay, but are these the real deal? And what I want?? Any advice appreciated! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190171307318&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

I paid $200ish installed for a magnaflow metallic one (2.5") so at that price I can't see why it couldn't be genuine.

I paid 140 for one on ebay. and when it arrived I looked up the part number on the thing and it all matched up.. build quality was great too..
for that extra bit of flow.. I got the 3 inch cat and sleeved it down to 2.5... I don't think my cat is much restriction to exhaust flow now.. |

dunno.. I went from standard exhaust/manifold to 2.5 inch mandral, genie extractors and the 3 inch cat.. but the overall mods together with the cam made a huge difference..

If your std cat is not stuffed i heard that you can take it to a wrecker or the like and they will give you $50 or more for it as they have plantinum in them
The Magnaflow cats are apparenlty 200 cell per inch instead of 400 cell per inch that a normal ceramic cat is, meaning half the cell's per inch = a lot less restriction. As well as ebay you can try http://www.bestmufflers.com who is based in Sydney - they have good prices as well I bought the 3" magnaflow cat as well and as my pacemakers have a 2.5" flange I am getting a 3" flange fitted to them to match the 3" cat, it will go to 2.5" at the cat back exhaust

That was the cool thing about my Genies...
3 inch outlet flange.. straight onto cat.. and sleeved down to 2.5 after cat for the mandral exhaust.. |

i highly doubt there would be any real term gains to be had by going a 3 inch metal core cat over a 2.5 inch metal core cat if your system is 2.5 inch.

huh???
push air at high speed though the honeycomb of a cat is a restriction.. in effect the 3 inch cat would flow less air than the 2.5 inch pipe because of it.. The 2.5 inch cat would flow allot less than the pipe.. look in the end of a 3 inch magnaflow.. they have heaps of holes in them, but add all the hole sizes together and it still works out less than the 2.5 inch pipe in area.. The 3 inch cat provides more holes essentially.. it can flow more and restrict less. |

would like to look at one actually so i can nut a few things out. remember its not all about flow, its about velocity. go too big and you loose flow speed. hence my hankering to have a look see. if there is space from where it widdens to where the honeycomb starts you could get depressurising effect at low rpm making it harder to push through. this would be overcome as rpm rises and more gas tries to force its way through.

I bought a 2.5" magnaflow off ebay. Was legit and works just fine. Just had to get a pro to weld in the flanges for extractors and exhaust.
Total cost...just under $200. phong =P~

bump.
I just bought one of these, it's the same as frankiehs I just got told from an exhaust specialist that the cat is just a regular cat, he said it's best suited to a 4cyl and for a falcon it won't flow well at all, he wasn't even keen on welding it up for me. Any help? |
