Hey all, I posted ages ago that the ED would try and stall at lights and when I rev'd it it would hit 700 rpm then try and stall then pick up to 800 rpm. I cleaned ISC and Throttle Body to some success and checked vaccuum lines and MAP sensor. BUT here is the interesting part. I took the O2 sensor out and it looked Ok but I could not see the ceramic inside so I cleaned it in petrol and put it back in and it doesn't stall etc. Is this weird or is the O2 sensor the first thing we should check/replace when things don't go right.

Its not weird nor is it the first thing you should change.
Correct diagnostic procedure will let you know what's wrong. Or throw parts at it. Whatever suits |

Correct diagnostic procedues - Bet u go to Ford and get them to change ur spark plugs and oil - Mate most here are diy guys and dont have access to a obd2 or cbf reading blinking lights - Trial and error on a $25 part is fun and you get to learn your car inside and out

Actually I'm a Mechanic....
I don't like wasting time, money and I hate to beat around the bush. Do it right or don't do it at all hey mate. If you wanna be DIY mechanics you should still follow a diagnostic procedure, if you know what that is. |

The best investment you'll make is spending $20 on a PDF version of the factory workshop manual, $20 on a basic test light or $50 on an ECU safe LED test light and $100 on an entry level multimeter and learning how to use them. Then you will start to learn something. You'll find it far more satisfying when you properly diagnose the problem and only spend money on the correct parts. |

Nah - Bush mechanics up here in the Nth - Test lights for girls - Any Falcon can be fixed with a stanley screwdriver, sidchrome spanner and bunnings hammer - Seriously K you've seen my ED and know I have not spent any money on fixing it in the last 7 years bar a fan belt, a screaming idler pulley, oil, filter, spark plugs, leads and it still goes strong - When I put the extractors on I used the original O2 and I know I should have changed it then but hey got 80,000 km out of it - Used a mates OBD1.0/1.5/2.0 and it said the A/C button was stuck on - Anyway I bet the majority of car here dont get full service every 15,000 km and parts not replaced when recommended so yeah why not chuck a few new parts when nd where you can afford it

Ha, Diagnosis Procedure - Ever heard or used FSTI - You think I'm stupid or something - I not a mechanic nor need a Tech Certificate to say I know how to fix my 06/1994 ED Falcon - Idling issues solved

Look Kerry - You're the one with an attitude and there are plenty of posts to prove your "Like me or not" attitude - I don't need a 21 year old mechanic to tell me to follow correct diagnosis procedures or buy a Gregorys - Gee, I have about 23 years of reading and been fixing and selling cars from XD/TE to EL - I have stated in the original post "I cleaned ISC and Throttle Body to some success and checked vaccuum lines and MAP sensor" - How about you boys read the initial post and my diagnosis procedures and not just pick up on one line cos you'se think its not politically correct - Next you'll be telling me Allan Moffat is not a Tru Blu Ford driver cos he's Canadian !!!

For a start ford is American.
Honestly if I was there to help you, not that I'd want to impose on you're car yard knowledge, or ever help you anyway, id have it sorted in no time. Come on man it's a falcon, it's not hard. Nice books tho. I bet you they follow a process. |

Another thing that can cause erratic idling is a faulty PSPS.
