Did a head gasket and put it all back together after dismantling the head so i removed the cam rockers but didn't dismantle them, just sat them on a bench since last week. Put the engine back together today and I suspect I'm not getting any compression on 2 & 6 because its got petrol and spark but no ignition. I haven't put the exhaust manifold on so I can see flames shooting out of all but 2 & 6.

I lifted the rocker cover off and cranked the engine, oil is seeping out of each rocker arm's HLA hole at the top. It looked like some of the HLAs were further out than others, especially on 2 and 6 so I removed the rockers from the head. Most are extremely solid and dont compress at all when you squeeze them.

I pulled a few out and the rubber seal on the HLA fell apart.

Does it make sense that these were sticking and not allowing the valves to close, no compression therefore no bang in the cylinders?

Second, I got quoted $19 for EACH one! Is that right or how much are they meant to cost?

Do a compression test..
$19 is a bit much for a HLA - depends on where you shop but I would expect about $15 for non-trade.

I dont have a comp tester.

I thought they'd be $30-40 for a full kit....

Damn, I wish I had started my engine when I had the exhaust manifold off, would have been awesome to watch.

Don't run an engine with no headers for too long as you can crack a valve. The extremely hot valves come in contact with cold air and

Just a thought.....
