I have bought myself a Derale single stage thermo kit (half the price of davies craig one) to run the thermos i have put in my ed.
these kits arent adjustable as the dc ones are, and the Derale kits are set to turn the fans on at 82deg. All good so far, kit will turn on fans at 82deg... BUT... seeing that my thermostat is set to open at around 88deg the motor is never going to warm up as the fans will turn before the thermostat opens!!! can i get a lower temp thermostat, and if so, what effect will that have on the motor? has anyone else ever used the derale kits before, and lastly is this even an issue???? I think i have backed my self into a corner because im a tight a***! any help is appreciated, cause its got me stumped! cheers |

it opens at 88 cause the operating temp is suposed to be in that range so that all the moving parts and engine block, cylinder head are expanded and engine wear is kept to a minimal engine wear is worst when not at operating temp as when putting the engines together you have to have a certain amount of clearace so tht the engine doesnt expand and sieze! so now you can understand why having them running to cold is not good for them unless the engine is biult with tighter clearences to take up for the less expansion.

The proper temp for an ED t'stat is from 91 to 93. You would fit the 82 switch in the lower hajf of the cooling system....like the bottom tank...like Lasers.

thanks for that.
will play around with it this weekend and see what the results are. i like the idea of putting it in the bottom tank cjh, thats a top idea, might also play around with a few different thermostats (ive got one for my xd that opens at 82deg, they look the same as the ed ones). i think that anything will be better than whats in there, ever since ive had the ed its hardly the temp gauge has hardly risen above cold (think the thermostat is poked), even on 30+ days n traffic (yes, we do get them here!) |
