ED-EF compression difference 8:8:1 to 9:3:1
ive noticed ed pistons have a deeper bowl than ef so is that what hightens the compression ??? im rebuilding an ef and ive aquired an ed head and the pistons that were supplyed to me were designed for an ed, the machinest so basically by using the ed head and pistons im pretty much going to get 8:8:1* compression im guessing,, also bores are oversize 20thou, 0.50mm can anyone confirm this as it may assist me in not having to shim the head to drop the compression because im turboing it

i am also rebuilding a ef motor and also got ed pistons from the machinest
but i am not going turbo so i got the head faced and the block and am using a au gaskit |

So that's why the earlier motors like turbocharging so much, just under 9:1 comp? A mls gaskit would help to bring the comp back up if you want it back up, but it's easier to shave the head a bit to bump the compression.
The comp might be up a tad with the oversize.... Cheers ToranaGuy

Dont guess just cc the head and you will know for sure, Ring the suppler of the pistons and they will tell you what the cc dish is ,plus you work out your bore and deck hieght and contact suppler of gasket and they will tell cc of that as well .
CR=(D + PV + DC + G + CC) / (PV + DC + G + CC) CR = Compression Ratio D = Displacement PV = Piston Volume DC = Deck Clearance Volume G = Gasket Volume CC = Combustion Chamber Volume It wont take long to work out and most of the volumes are in the suppler books so you wont even have to ring them . Guessing this sort of thing can become expensive |
