hey ford chick unfortunately yeah it does cost over $1000 for a head gasket to be done, not so much the parts but the amount of time required to do the job (10+ hours I think). Personally I'm going to atempt to do it myself.

Getting a second motor is also an option like you said. guess it'll depend on what you want to do how much work you've already done to your current motor as well.

Good luck for whatever you decide.

stick with the devil you know. If you are able to remove the head yourself, send it off to be skimmed + pressure tested etc. If the head isn't cracked you could probably do the whole job for around $300.

How many k's on the bottom end? Is the lower half in good nic?

I just did this too a few weeks ago.. got a workshop to sort it out, took a couple of days, they ordered a new head as mine was cracked, and the motor feels healthy as, 275XXX's. Pulled above average for stock on a dyno last weekend.

If you're gonna buy another used engine, I'd get it rebuilt and modified for sure, but it would take a little longer.. Depends on your situation I guess? :D
