standard ED dont have a coilpack - has a coil. check dizzy cap, rotor button, TFI unit on dizzy & with dizzy cap off check that you cannot turn rotor button by hand [not a lot of force]

realise that they have a Dizzy hidden under there. i've been told to check a spring with the rotor button i don't really think i've seen a spring or anything like that with a dizzy set up before. any idea what they were referring too? maybe a small spring in the rotor button?.

Spring in the centre pin of the cap... Have to be careful you don't get it caught when replacing the rotor cap and break it off...
Cheers, Tim

It will probably be the dizzy. It will need a complete new dizzy installed. Possible ignition coil will need replacing as well. Seek professional help to install a dizzy if you have no mechanical knowledge.

TFI (or Ignition Module) grey thing on the side of the distributor. A b**ch to change in situ, but can be done.

any tips for getting the Tfi out and new one in? we're going to do that first and see if that's the problem. hopefully not having to pull too much appart to get it running again. just strange how it started miss fireing and drove all the way home the next day then when turned off it just wouldn't give spark anymore.

Quote: drove all the way home the next day then when turned off it just wouldn't give spark anymore not unusual! I am not sure about the ED, but if it has a log inlet manifold, take the throttle body and air cleaner box off, and it is reasonably easy to access the TFI unit. If it is a multi -point injection, you need multi-jointed arms. I found it best to take out the air filter box, remove the intake runner, drop off the aircon compressor clean really well around the bottom of the dist., and mark with a scriber or chisel mark where the dist. is set to, loosen and twist the dist., remove and replace the TFI and reset the dist. to the position marked. (Replacing all the crap taken off) It is really handy if you have skinny arms |
