howdy i am wondering what relibility the ED Falcons and fairmonts have at 100000-200000kms compared to 271000kms that our car has done
would the engines be better in lower kms ED Falcons compared to High kms ED falcons and can i swap the gas tank out of the 271000kms ED Falcon that we have and put it into a lower kms ED falcon if it's only got petrol not duel fuel or is it a problem |

I had a Fairmont with 370K on it, country ks tho and the previous owner always had it serviced by ford. It went nuts!
Alot depends on the way the car has been treated, with regards to whether it has been flogged and serviced regularly. a car with higher ks is always prone to more repairs than one with lowers ks, in saying that a car with higher ks may be more reliable if treated well. ................END RANT............. you could have a car that's done 600,000 kms and been looked after in better condition than a car that's done 100,000 kms and been thrashed. not likely, but kms are not the only factor to look at!

so if i looked at an ED falcon thats only done say 150000kms-180000kms and its been servived regularly or excellent condition had this and that done to it recently would the car generally be in excellent condition.
Back to the gas is swapping the gas system and tank out of the bad ED Falcon ok to put in the Better ED falcon if its only got petrol not duel fuel & if i cant see the date on the tank |

my car has 260000kms and it runs that well and goes that hard you wont know the diff and it dosent use any oil between services or make any rattles. so yeah it depends on how the car is looked after

id check the head gasket then check the auto is shifting ok and that both the engine oil and transmission oil is not rooted if it is its signs of a neglected car. afterwards check for engine bottom end noise. at the end of the day it all depends on how its been looked after. as previous post said some guys including myself are running engines with 200+ kays and it will emberass newer cars.

I got my 92 EB Fairmont at an auction a couple of years ago
with 262,000 km on it. A dealer purchased it for me and this is what he did in the yard.. - checked the oil and coolant quality, deemed OK, clean-ish - started it and revved it right up, turned it off and opened the oil filler cap. No smoke, deemed OK - drove it round the block, checked brakes, steering and transmission changes D,3,2,1 in motion...deemed OK - it appeared to me that the head gasket had already been replaced, with residual sealant not fully cleaned off. - the engine bay was filthy, actually looked like some rats had been living in there or something (no joke)..... Anyway, I took the car and I hadnt even driven the thing. I trusted the guy I was with and he got it for a pretty good price. Work Ive had done the car is - engine bay cleaned out - tie rod ends replaced - new radiator (the top pipe collar broke off, when checking clamp) - miscellaneous small items - new brake pads all round - serviced every 5000km since purchase Nearly 2 years later the car is going fine, now up to 316,000km. Never broken down, always started, cruises great... I did consider going for the gas at one stage, but my mechanic reckoned the motor was a bit long in the tooth for the change-over. Thus, if she aint broke, why fix it.... Hope you find a good ED. Take a mechanic with you if you can. |
