or if you feel confident.. take the cap off the dizzy.. let it dry out.. replace it.. and start it... |

If you can't get or haven't got any water dispersant spray try CRC or WD40 in the dizzy. When you do get it going go for a decent drive so the engine warms up. This will make any other moisture in the electrics evaporate.
By the way that cheap as chips degreaser works great doesn't it? And the tyre shine is good too

i just found out no matter what the distributor's no good and dead anyway
so it has to be replaced anyway |

would the distributor be another possibillity to the overheating at times being out of tune or not and would the distributor be part of the trouble of why the car didn't start on gas but did when it got a bit warmer in the cold and only just starting on petrol in the morning
