The question was simply what to do beforehand, and if engine may be seized.
Here's what i'd do: Fuel system: Drain fuel by earthing top right pin diagnosis connector, turn ign on (pump runs continuously), remove fuel filter, use this point to drain. Remove fuel pump, inspect tank inside - tank may need to removed as you may find a fungus or 'barnacle' type buildup inside. Clean tank if necessary. Renew fuel filter, clean pump pickup if necessary. Pump might be marginal. Injectors may need cleaning, due to gumming up - this will be determined when running. Cooling system: check for coolant level and condition - use test strips to check coolant health. Oil system: Lube top cylinders through spark plug holes. Lube rocker gear and camshaft. Check oil level and condition, if okay, engine can be run, but oil and filter change is recommended soonish. Motor engine over (CRT LP fuse pulled to disable starting) until oil light goes out, or oil pressure is up to normal range. DO NOT run the engine without building oil pressure first. Lifters may be noisy for a while. Run the engine for a good half to three quarters of an hour.

thanks very much snap, that's exactly the sort of answer i was looking for.
by "lube cylinders through spark plug holes" do you mean just pour some oil down there? if so how much? And what sort of oil should I use? 20/50? Thanks a lot. |

NP.
Any motor oil will do - just a light squirt into each cylinder case, just to aid initial lubrication, as you will find the bores will most likely have some surface rust.

It'd surprise you what will start with a bit of effort. A few years back we had a late 50's Mercedes that hadn't been started in15-20 years. My uncle was giving it to me, so we thought we'd try to get the bugger going. With a bit of fuel, topped up the oil and a new battery it started within 10 seconds!

When you get it going, make sure you give it a good birthday.
ohh thats after blowing out the cob webs! If your keeping it, I'd advise you to replace the waterpump at the very least.

c'mon, crank it.
If i can get an old renault 12 to kick over and go after over 10years sitting in the elements with only a new battery and sparkers, sureley this baby will go. Biggest problem i had with the old renault was the brake pads had rusted to the rotors, fwd reverse, forward reverse etc for a bit and she moved |
