Hey all,

My missus parents have an ED out the front that hasn't been started in like 2 years. Do you reckon it'll be seized? If not how f**k will the fuel be? What are my chances of saving it?

It wont Seize
the fuel Might Be Stale but by all means just crack it up if it doesnt work then ask a few questions make sure the battery is working aswell like jump start it

fuel may be old but a new battery or jumpstart(check battery acid level) should be alright the car shouldn't be sized cause there should still be oil etc.. um drain a little bit of oil or top the oil up a bit and start and let it sit there idleing for a while (15 mins give or take ) should be enough to get it up to a decent state

Drain the oil, pull the rocker cover off and poor new oil all over the top of the engine.
Turn the engine by hand (remove spark plugs), or just crank it over for a little while with the coil lead disconnected.
Squirt a little oil down the plug hole also.

It will rattle for a while on startup but it should be fine.

Good idea if the engine was seized, but if was sitting out the in the yard covered, I would say that with the fuel tank drained and repaced wth fresh fual and battery replaced or jumped (take care jumping) it should start first time.

so by drain the fuel i assume we mean jam a hose down there and suck like a vietnamese pro?

nah should have a drain plug in the tank somewhere and as sturmovik said turn it ova by hand first and oil the bores less chance of it f**k itsself

no drain plug on EA-EL..

but u can remove the pump (which is a pain in the a** without the right tool) and drain pump it through the opening

do you really need to go to all that hassle with the oil? i'm guessing if it's been left for 2 years, then your probably not overly worried about it at all. yeah not doing it might cause some extra wear when starting, but you probably don't give a s**t anyways, so long as it runs.

Well seriously, what's an ED worth these days? Downwards of 2 grand? This one's obviously worth a whole lot less and is obviousl not really a concern if it's been sitting around for 2 years.
Yes just cranking her over might cause a bit extra wear, but again probably not an overly big concern compared to the effort required to prevent.

this is my girlfriend's parent's car, and they've just sort of forgotten about it.
it has 81000 original km's, and is a 5 speed manual, the engine and gearbox are at the very least well worth saving.
I'd really like to do it properly, so all the advice on the right way to do it would be great, thanks guys.
