What sorta gasket to you need to get to be able to put the ED rocker cover on the EF head???, the Ef just got that half moon in it that the ED doesnt thats all.
If anyone can help me out that would be great, thanks guys |

you need an EA-ED gasket.. the heads are the same,, its the tappet/rocker covers that are different.. the EA/ED cover needs the gasket to fill in the cam holes front and back, the EF/EL rocker cover has them built in.
so, if you put a ED cover on, you'll need the ED gasket.. but why would you want to? they don't look as good, and they are more likely to leak. |

cuz the ef one ugly, and the ED one got the stripes on it, they look better when they all painted up and then the strips and logo sanded back so blue rocker cover, with metal if that makes sense

You will probably also need to change the bolts to the EB/ED studs. They use different methods to hold them down, and I think that they are different heights so check that too.

i thought that the eb/ed ones had a threaded rod scred to the rocker gear then had a bolt holding it down??? i may be wrong though

You are correct.
The EB has dome nuts which screw on to the rods, which is why they might need to be put in if he uses the EB rocker cover BenJ

look at AU ones. they look as good if not better than the EB/ED ones bit you dont have to "backdate" the look under bonnet

There have been some mistakes in this thread.
The EB has a notoriously leaky setup with half moon rubber inserts and a flat gasket, held down by studs with domed-head nuts. The ED/EF/EL gasket and rocker cover go down into the cutouts, and are held down by bolts. I know the EB and ED systems are interchangeable because i have done so. I don't know for sure about other possible interchangeabilities.

I have an ED motor in my car now.. and it has pretty much the same cover as EA/EB.. the half moons are on the gasket not the cover. ( I know this because I just changed the cam not long ago)
The EL motor I have in my shed has the halfmoons as part of the cover, but definitely not on the ED cover. All of them are interchangeable, sometimes you just have to use the fastening bolts from the new cover to hold it properly.... |

ive put a eb cover on a el head as it is polished and i think the square look suits the boxcar alot better. you just need to use the eb gaskets and half moon rubbers, ALTHOUGH! the thickness of that area on the later model heads are thicker than the early heads. so the half moon rubber gaskets will need extra sealant at the edges and forced into the cutout. this does help them seal though and i have not had a leak yet. check out my gallerey to see what i mean, about the look anyway.
