Just wondering has anyone transfered the complete Tickford head off an ED engine to an EF engine?

yeah mate pritty much straight swap the only difference is the rocker cover. Which just depends on which one you are going to use. If you use the ED one get the ED gasket if you use the EF get the EF gasket pritty straight forward.

The only difference between the rocker covers are the EF one has little half moon things on the rocker cover and the ED doesnt but all you do to the head is pull the little grommets out of the ED head and the EF rocker cover fits straight on.

Actually, there is another difference. On close inspection you will note that on each side of the half moon, on the EA-Early ED heads the edge is sqared off, a right angle. On the Late ED-AU heads the edges is curved.
While in theory this may cause issues when fitting a late ED-AU rocker cover on the earlier heads, many members have had no problems at all. BenJ

Well i got a hybrid ED engine,my build date is 7/94 with a different rocker cover to the earlier EA's to ED's.The gasket that suits my rocker cover is the EF/EL little rubber one and i cannot use the earlier gasket suited to the ealier EA/ED's.
My rocker cover has the groove all the way round like the EF/EL rocker covers. The head on my engine is a 94 AB which is an EF meaning i have the equivalant to an ED XR head???Please correct me if im wrong. There is a difference in performance compared to any ealier model ED not a great deal but it is noticeable.

The 91AA head flows the best, but then you need to use a EA-EB-early ED rocker cover and gasket .. I think I have one of the late model ED rocker covers around somewhere .. But can't remember if its the tickford cover or not .. but it was factory painted red Laticia .

So the valve sizes on the ED head compared to an EF head are the same size???I had read on here on one of the threads that mentioned that the EF onward heads had larger valves either exhaust or inlet compared to the EA - ED.???
I will see if i can find it and post it up.

I found this, but am still looking for the rest.
Steady ED wrote: 96DT is EL Hybrid tickford head.
95DT is the pre feb-98 EL ticky casting. 94AB is the casting that is said to ahve the biggest ports, not necessarily the most flow or the best performance. Don't know how it compares to a 95DA though, I've never even seen a 95DA. Late EDs got bitza motors, some got the fully counterweighted EF crank and EF head. Or could have just had a headswap in it's life, pretty hard to say. This was in the thread "94AB Head vs 95DA Head".

Have found some more info,
paulc wrote: AB94 is your best flowing standard head. This is the base head that CMS use for all his head work. EL__Fairmont wrote: 94AB head is the best flowing standard head. EF's and early EL's have these heads. My El fairmont has one of these heads... The mock boys say these are the best heads also for gains.
Found these on the thread "best head//best flowing e-series head"
