Ok well I just checked the BBM for switching and it is switching as it should. Can physically see it switch.

It has an AU MLS gasket and a shaved head so compression should not be the cause.

As fair as I was aware the timing should be set at 0 BTDC on the el ecu. It also has an el timing cover fitted so it is set to the timing mark. I will check the o2 sensor next to see what the go is.

It is quite a torquey setup but has no top end unfortunately. I'll keep searching.

It appears that the BBM is working correctly, as the dynoplot shows the little dip at about 4000rpm that you normally get on transition from long to short runners.

I don't understand why the dynoplot stops at 5000rpm. Would it show more power if the run had extended to redline?

no run stopped becuase power had peaked. more revs would only have shown power to drop at above that.

His biggest problem is the GRA throttle, it the same as having 45mm gas ring in the system.
the engine struggles to build power above 4000rpm. right where his throttle body is going to become a restriction.

Right tickford 6 there was no point in reving it any harder as it was not making power. I was right next to the car watching the run and could see what it was doing. I hope that its not the gr but I guess we will see.

If it's peaking at 5000rpm with those mods and cam, then there must be a restriction in either the intake or exhaust. Everything looks good, so by process of elimination, would look at the TB +1.

have you screwed with the cam timing?

it made 135rwkw with BBM and a J3? i made 140rwkw with a baby 1636 cam, log manifold and standard computer. something is seriosuly wrong.

Next question.
What fuel were you using on that run. If it was LPG you should be jumping for joy.
If it was petrol, refer my other posts.

I wouldn't think the GRA TB would be that restrictive, there are much more powerful car's running them without issue.

What fuel was the dyno run done with? Ignition timing needs to differ on LPG to make max power.

Cheers

One run was done on BP Ultimate 98 and the other on gas. I think the higher reading was with petrol. The gas is for economy anyway but the power on petrol is terrible.

The cam is dialed in as per specs but im still thinking its timing related. Maybe this cam needs a heap more timing to make it come to life.

Agreed something is seriously wrong bit by bit I will eliminate things. It will most likely go back on the dyno next week and I'll try some different things. Timing is one and I might drop the exhaust after the cat to see if the exhaust is a restriction.

Does the cam spec sheet say anything about ignition timing at all?

Cheers

I'll dig out the specs of the cam tomorrow if I can find it.

I saw those dips - and actually took them as a possible sign the BBM wasn't working - ie. engine not doing what the ECU expected at that point (to me the graph lines fall back a bit and then resume). But if it's been physically confirmed as switching then it's working...

Like we said - the base timing needs to be same as it was for the ED ECU - if it's been set up differently then that's probably the issue right there.

Why should he have 10deg BTDC when an el ecu has timing set to run at 0??
Since you have a chip though you can just add more timing on that though and see if it makes a difference.

In my case - and it looks like it was the same for dazza027 - BECAUSE IT APPARENTLY SEEMED TO WORK!!!

I did the same thing as dazza and initially didn't touch the dizzy when the EL ECU went in - the car ran and felt fine like that but I figured I'd better do the right thing and set it to TDC and it was F***ed - pretty much what's being described by the OP here - so I put it back to the original ED timing and all was sweet again.

I SAY AGAIN: WHEN I PUT THE EL ECU IN MY ED IT RAN PROPERLY ONLY WHEN THE TIMING WAS SET TO BE THE SAME AS THE ED ECU - SO THIS MIGHT BE THE ISSUE HERE TOO.

How much clearer can we be???

I don't know WHY that was the case - it simply was. Talking EXPERIENCE here - not just pulling suppositions out of my a rse.

I haven't worked on or seen an EL - presumably it has just the one "Timing Mark" on the front cover?

If so - does it state anywhere that the mark is TDC (zero degrees)?? - maybe that single mark on the EL timing cover is actually 10 degrees...

yes the el timing is 0 deg, the thing many people dont do with el is, once you bridge the diagnostic pins and start the car, you wait aprox 2 mins then the ecu goes into base timing mode, this is when you set it..
not like eb where you need to set it within 2 mins..
here is a clip ive done to show others how to set the timing on an el..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJQpSyDMA2E

i always ran mine about 2 deg btdc to give a slight responce increase..
