Hey guys,
I have an ef 6 cyl and my air con compressor just went, just wondering what I need to do to replace it, I know I have to get a shop to bleed the gas out, after that is it just as simple as draining the coolant, undoing the drive belt then unbolting the compressor? Cheers |

its fairly straight forward..
if you want to do the right thing for the enviroment you should get the gas removed.. but if the enviroment dont worry you just undo one of the valves on the metal line or just undo the pipes from the pump carefully and be prepaired to stand back as gas and oil will go everywhere.. undo the lines from the pump, remove the belt, unplug the compressor, undo the 3 bolts holding it to the block and thats it.. no need to drain coolant as it has nothing to do with the aircon pump... |

I got myself a new compressor from the wreckers but the bolt that holds that plate that the hoses connect to I can't manage to get that off so I just cut the hoses of and coolant came out of one, and do you know any way to get that bolt out cos I tried at least 3 different cars at the wreckers and everytime I tried to undo it, the head of the bolt kept rounding off

and i just spoke to an airconditioning mechanic and he said that when the compressors on EFs go they send little bits of metal filings through the system so it need to be flushed out, so if i just replace the compressor myself without flushing it, the new compressor will stuff up too, is that true?
thanks |

Ok cool, so what do I need to do with regards to the oil when I replace the compressor? And how do I go about cleaning the filter?
Sorry about all the questions mate, I wanna do this myself as I am broke at the moment and I hate driving without a/c |

the oil gets replaced when the aircon gets re gassed, tell them that the oil and gas has been emptied and they will add the oil when they add the gas..
im pretty sure the filter is inside the receiver dryer(bottle). it may need replacing as im not sure if the filter can be replaced.. |

What does the reciever dryer look like and where is it, would it be ok to use a second hand one or should I get a shop to put in a new one?
Hopefully that's the last question I have |

it looks like a black steel bottle, in ef its located behind the front bumper, i cant remember which side? i think its on the passenger side??
from memory they are about $70 from a auto elec/aircon place.. you could probably get them to fit it when it gets re gased |
