have got an EF, and ever since i have had it ive had a dreaded front end clunk every time i accelerate / brake it usually happens at low speeds etc its quite embracing to be honest
im not sure what it could be , im thinking something in the stub axle , car has all 4 new shocks all round installed via a workshop which did it correctly if its the balljoints its ok just wanting to know what parts to replace to make sure its fixed good and proper |

It may be the radius rod bushes giving out. Would be best to jack up the offending side and give things a good wiggle around. forward to backwards movement should be able to be seen if it was the Radius rod moving and these definately cluck when the bushes wear.

dumb question BUT is the radius rod bushes a part of the "K frame"?

The bushes are in the k-frame, but they slide out.
I cant remember if they are a single bush in the EF or 2 half bushes like in an EL. Either way, they are removable in the car with a bit of handy work at home. |

ok true , i believe white line make semi bushes in two pieces for easy installation as Torana guy has mentioned in anther thread when i used the search function ,
and as im down there to do the upper and lower ball joint it shouldn't be to much more work ? |

I'm pretty sure all 3 bush makers do this bush in halves for easy fitment. I know Nolathane and Whiteline do, but only cos they are the same parts really.
You need to drop the lower control arm to get the radius rod out, so the spindle is only 2 more bolts really. The b**ch is you need to remove the caliper and disc. |

ok great that will make life a lot easier having them in half moons .
now the question is when to do it , might just leave it till i know for a fact which one to replace but the ballpoints to remove do i need a press or anything ? |

You will need a press with appropriate adaptors to get them out.
Or I'm sure someone here, or maybe it was AFF, posted a picture of a home made contraption to remove and refit bushes from bits of Bunnings parts. Worst case, pull the spindles and drop them into a Pedders or ABS and say swap. Shouldnt cost must more than $50 |
