Hi Guys/Girls just replaced a head gasket on a Friends EF fairmont 9/94 I6 auto had a reco head checked skimmed and put on with new AU MLS and new bolts etc bolted everything up and ran little ruff when first started (turns out there was an injector plug off) fixed that problem and runs fin at idle in P,N,D etc BUT, When you go for a drive it will go almost 2k before the temp starts to rise (once at normal temp) and fans come on etc but temp dont go back down. When you try to accelerate it is strong for the first 1/4 of the throttle after that its gutless floor it and just drops back and barely goes anywhere, have used my GREAT tool I bought of MUZZA (cheers mate) and has come back as codes 214 CMP fail not in range. Now is that the Black "caution non-adjustable" thing where the dizzy goes in a EL or is it the little sensor above the crank? as im trying to fix the problem ASAP i have another EF to get parts out of but have to travel 100k one way to get them. I just want to make sure get the right parts so I dont have to travel twice to get them lol. Would this cause the car to run hot? as I had it idle for almost 2 hours and never got above the bottom of the NORMAL temp bar while giving it a few revs etc. Just that car is needed to get to Rocky (800k away) on Thursday and would like to get it fixed by then......
Any help from anyone that has had this problem or can shed some light on what it may be? Cam timing is right, new thermostat, water pump, radiator and hoses. Car did a head gasket (presumably because of this problem)????

Am I right to say that this is the Crank angle sensor (im assuming it should be cause it above the crank duh lol)
And this the CMP sensor (CaM angle sensor)

With the CMP sensor is there a specific way that the sensor goes in? I know its got to be on No.1 CYC or TDC but does the gear on the bottom on the sensor have to be in a specific position?

Yes it does take it out and have a look at near the rear of it you will see a little hole in it, turn it around until you see the shaft spin and then another hole shows up then wack a bolt in the hole and a little tape to hold in place then wack it back in and bobs your uncle then pull the bolt out of the hole can be anything nail, bolt what ever.

Took it out today, Cleaned it with some degreaser, then some carby cleaner seems clean, lined up the slot and put a little bolt in to hold it put motor on TDC (mark on timing cover with crank mark) connected it all back up..... AND still have fault code 214 is it supposed to go on TDC? or?

with a dizzy you line the button up with "start" under the cap and put it into the motor (at TDC) and by the time it turns as it goes in, it should read "finish"... Then you start the car with 0 degree base timing... Put it in base timing (test mode) and time to I think 10BTDC on a 6cyl?
Remember TDC can only be found by doing a compression test... Because TDC mark on the crank may be the compression stroke (one you want) and the next 360 degree turn on the crank will be the exhaust stroke (180 degrees out on a 4 stroke motor)... So TDC is the stroke when the piston is up AND the valves a closed (cam does half the revs of the crank)... How the cam angle sensor lines up as you slide in... I have no idea...
