No mate, that won't be it. When the fuel lines were reversed it wouldn't fire at all.

Well done on getting to this stage.

Cheers

Thanks Benj, I appreciate it. I am not happy i have to work tomorrow as i really wnat it sorted. Am hoping its a lead not on properly or at worst i may have damaged a plug when changing the leads. Firing order is 153624 yea, same as the X flows

Also check that the Map Sensor Vac pipe is plugged in to the Map Sensor and the BBM.

Cheers

Yep the firing order is correct. I just checked it in the manual.
Actually if you have a vacuum leak off the tree is the map sensor connected?

what injectors did you use??
was the ef engine a runner?
if not, fit the ed injectors and also check that all the injector plugs are on properly

I can vouch that the EF engine did indeed run but it had a stuffed head gasket.
I drove it about 10kms myself.

When i pulled it apart, the injectors from the EF looked crap, so i actually installed the ED injectors.
It will be something simple. I am not feeling well so wont be going to work tomorrow and will sort it then.
Will let you all know how i go in the AM

OK, idle issue sorted, Turns out i had rested the BBM on the dizzy cap, and as such she moved a little and wasn't sitting straight.

I ha dhoped to keep the ED rocker cover, but alas it could not be done, so i painted the EF cover and installed that. Only issue now is the temp guage doesnt seem to be working. I have a feeling this may be why the EF blew a head gasket, so i will swap my Thermostat and sender and see what happens. Took it for a quick test squirt, and it has a heap more bottom end torque, but doesnt seem to transition into the long runners for tomp end scream, hopefully the EL ECU will sort that.
Also, it seems in my effort to clean all the used parts i have killed the tensioner, and it makes a fair bit of noise, will need to source a new one some time soon, but i acan deal with it for now.

the ef dont have the small temp sender like the ed. ed has the large one for the ecu and a small one for the gauge, so you need the ed thermostat housing and the small sender needs to be plugged in..

The lower thermostat housing is the one Troy is referring to.

Oh, and you will just need new pulleys on the tensioner, approx $25 each at Bursons.

Good to hear you got the idle sorted.

Cheers

I went for a run in ED this afternoon and it has really changed the old beast.
Goes pretty damn well and is very smooth now.

there is a vacuum solinoid that is behind the washer bottle in the ef,
you run a vac line from the manifold to the blue check valve, then from the check valve to the vacuum solinoid, and from the vac solinoid to the diaphragm on the front of the bbm..

then there is a plug with 2 wires. the red wire goes to ignition power(you can splice this into the injector red wire)
and the green wire is the one that goes to the ecu..

No probs, more bits i need of the EF then.
I take it these bits are not on the ED loom.

Geez there are certainly a few bits required.
Good thing there is the complete car to pick it all from.
If you get a sec Brett it might be cool if you do a full list of the bits you have had to track down to update the info a bit.
