Hey, just did a service on the old girl last weekend and noticed my drive belt was about a third off the side of the pulleys! It's old and has play so I am going to replace the whole tensioner.
My questions is: Is it a straight bolt on and off? Any special procedures? I can't seem to find anything on it in my manual?

Hey mate
Yeah, its a torx bit (i forget what size) that holds the tensioner assembly to the block. Nothing fancy, it just bolts and unbolts. New tensioner in the vicinity of 100 bucks from ford, from what i recall. Lol, good work getting to it before the belt let go!! Lucky....

Awesome, thanks heaps for your help!
The mech I use is a ford nut, says he can supply me one for $89 woohoo!!! And yes, I am glad I have got to it now, I would hate to think what would happen when it goes SNAP... for now I'll drive it till I can get the part haha... With the tensioner, you'd use a 10mm double hex socket, or if the bolts haven't been removed for a long time, a 10mm hex socket so you don't round off the head if they're very tight.
Correct me if I'm wrong though . . .

Nah, you're spot on snap But a male torx bit, with it's 6 prongs, will usually fit the appropriately sized female hex head.... just depends on whether its got enough bite to turn it. I think i ended up using a torx because i didnt have/had lost the 10mm hex driver.
Falcondave... 300 bucks?!? May just be for the V8 tensioner (altho im pretty sure they're very very similar) but was $110 from ford spares... with free delivery!

Just rang ford for their prices... $207 for the tensioner, $55 for the belt (retail) and no such thing as delivery... bloody Melbourne inner suburbs money scammers.

Get the belt aftermarket, from CBC or similar. You just need to know the length of it in mm.
It will be a 6pkxxxx <- where xxxx represents the length in mm

Yeah the XH belt is longer than the EF/EL one, so you do need to make sure you get the right one.

You should be glad its an EF not an XH. they are $288.00 trade price. I was lucky and picked one up at the wreckers for $20.
I'm converting my EA to serpentine belt and thermo fans.
