hey guys, i;ve had a look in tech docs and in the sticky and searched for this but havent found what i need...

Just wondering if anyone knows if the EF/EL 4.0l blocks are compatible with the 3.9L head. The only reason im wanting this combination is because we have a spare 4.0L block and i want to rebuild it and throw my current head and intake running gear on it.
was thinking of getting the ACL race series kit so it shall be interesting how it will perform..

anyways, thanks in advance..

as far as im aware they will just bolt together as the ea can use an au gasket etc.

although the 3.9 head isnt the best starting point due to the swirl ridge in the combustion chaber etc, unless the head has had work idd suggest using a newer head.

yep does go straight on..
i wouldnt say its a bad starting point.. the swirl ridge has been known for creating a hot spot in the combustion chamber but it also reduces the cc of the head. so fit that to a ef block and you will also gain a higher compression ratio..

thanks guys. I wasnt aware of this issue with the 3.9 heads but we are doing with what we've got. It would be good if we did come across a another head.

I thought that might be the case with the smaller head creating a higher comp ratio.

ACL dont make them anymore  ? that SUCKS. i shall be able to source another brand i suppose. what did you end up getting WILD_CLEVELAND?

cool...

not to hijack, but would fitting a 4.0L head have a lower compression ratio then? Just done a timing chain, and need a new head for my 3.9L... but won't get a 4.0L head if it'll lose compression.

What you lose in comp you'll make up for in better flow.
There is a reason Ford turfed the 'swirl ridge' that exists in the 3.9L head.

Did that info come from Hoppers Express as they mentioned that in January this year. The company that bought ACL is only going to make the race kits occasionally so the ones people are buying now are probably off the shelf. Can anyone confirm this from other suppliers?

Anyone heard about the 3.9 heads being made of inferior alloy compared to the EB (onwards) heads?
