EF/EL snorkels.
Most people say that you can fit a AU XR8 snorkel to the EF/EF 6cyl falcon by using the method in the ford mods technical brief. I tend to disagree because I sticky taped an AU xr8 snorkel so it would sit in the position it would screw down on. I then gently closed the bonnet slowly and to my suprise the rubber seal on top of the bonnet covers the top part of the mouth of the snorkel. Therefore rendering the snorkel useless with about the same airflow as the stock one. I then moved it up so it would fit on one original mounting point and then shut the bonnet. The rubber seal just sits nicely behind the mouth but it isn't facing straight. I went back into ford and exchanged it for a EL GT snorkel which in my opinion is larger and better flowing plus it fits to the original screw points. So the moral of this story is if you are going to use an AU XR8 snorkel you need to mount it inline with the original screw holes and not back an inch or the rubber seal blokes the mouth, rendering it to be useless. Cheers Luke, have a nice day!!!!!!!!!! _________________ EL Fairmont |

IN my EA fitting the XH shorkle I re-routed the rubber seal cause of the same thing.

this is why we cut the edge off it isnt it so it lines up with the screw holes u still have to drill new ones but they are inline with the old ones still

I didn't bother trimming mine, just screwed it into place where the original screw mounts where (only needed to make one hole, as one lined up ok)

The EL GT snorkel is around $50. The AU XR8 snorkel is around $40. Prices have gone up dramatically since last year due to the demand as quoted by a ford spare parts person.
If you mount the AU XR8 snorkel on the original mounting screws it does not face directly straight ahead and looks a bit dodgy. But I still stand by my experiment that that rubber seal blokes the mouth if you position it back on the radiator support panel. Cheers Luke , have a nice day!!!!!!!!! |

I love that
"Prices have gone up dramatically since last year due to the demand as quoted by a ford spare parts person" Dosn't really fit in with the laws of mass production Wingman |

I would tend to agree with happy, i would say their warehouse is starting to run low and that's why the price hike. Just think by the end of the year a performance snorkel might be a collectors item. (so don't throw them out) lol..lol..
Because one day someone will go into ford spare parts and ask for a snorkel. They will punch in a few keys on their PC and reply "sorry sir, they are not being made anymore) Cheers Luke. |

So Luke, the EL GT one bolts up to the same holes, no cutting, bigger thoat and no rubber blocking?

I have the EL GT/XR8 one in my EL Fairmont. It's a perfect fit.
Here is the difference between the standard I6, V8 and Pre EL 185kw XR8 snorkle and the EL GT/XR8-185kw snorkle.

Mine fits properly i just did what the doco said and trimmed it back a bit and it fits perfectly. No problems except for the very slight uneven bonnet lol.
