Well after funds limited me installing the BBM on my EB, I was thinking of just replacing the EB airbox with one from an EF/EL - I would keep the intake manifold where it is of course and simply create some piping to route from the new airbox to the throttle body.
I just thought it may be of an advantage to do this airbox change for a few reasons: -The panel filter is bigger in the EF/EL (Well it looks bigger, don't know if it actually is - can someone confirm that?) -My engine bay (with some sexy metalic piping) will look modern and sexy! -It would be much easier to put in some cold air induction by cutting a hole in the bottom of the airbox and running another snorkel/pipe to the bumper openings (or wherever I can get some cold air) My questions are these: With the airbox being shaped differently and the pipe from the airbox to the throttle body having to be longer and bent a little to reach down there, will this actually decrease my performance? Will the airbox from an EF/EL bolt straight in to the EB? Are the EF/EL boxes the same? Is it not worth it and should I simply just mod my current box and run a cold air intake from elsewhere? If so, could people post me some pics of how they ran their cold air intakes on EB-ED? (Spose these pics will be handy anyway, give me a few ideas) So yeah, just chucking that idea out there (if it hasn't been done already, no doubt it has - so sorry lol) What do people think? Worth it/not worth it? |

has been done, no problems. just need to get in there and make it fit. and im told it does give more power (a few poofteenths)
just means you need to put some spanner time it to fit it all as some of the mounts wont line up. the eb didnt have multi point or variable inlet? that'll make it a bit harder

Thanks |

I wouldn't think it would be worth the effort without the BBM. As the EF/EL air box is upside down to that of the EB. The piping to the throttle body is going to be tricky to say the least.
Wait until you do eventually get a BBM then do it.

mate, dont change the setup, best thing to do is put a xh snorkel on and leave it at that. Also i'm pretty sure the eb is similiar to mine except for the pipe going into the throttle body is smaller than an ea so change that to one from an ea and with the snorkel is the best setup you could get. its less restrictive than the over the top approach that was on the ef/el's

Done the EL airbox to my ed before motor swap, I plated the outlet in the airbox lid with sheet aluminium, cut the oval hole out for the snorkel, went to some trouble with the snorkel as I bought the big XR8 tickford snorkel cut it just before it turned down, cut up the original snorkel and plastic welded it to the tickford snorkel, bought the rubber intake pipe that fits the BA and used that to feed the air from the bottom of the box to the throttle body. I gave the setup to a mate with a EB I'll try to get some pics for ya's.

I got a modified EL aribox in my LTD.
It breaths as per normal EA-ED i modded it so it breaths out of the original intake hole and then bogged a XH snorkel into the lid also blocking off the hole at the back where the normal EL intake pipe joins. Combined with a K&N filter i did notice a gain as the oringinal airbox is very piddly compared to the new one

i dont know about power gains?? but the airbox will bolt straight onto the eb mounting holes...

It would only really be a power gain if I went with my idea which was cold air induction, it just seems that it would be easier with the EF/EL air box - run an intake from the bottom of the box. |

i did it with a pod in the air box on my EA, and used the XH snorkle modded into top half, and blocked off the standard ef/el intake point at the back. looks better and i need the size to fit the pod.

the thermostat housing will have to be changed as the EL style snorkel hits the hose. another issue to consider

ive got an EF/EL airbox in mine, i hacked up an ED snorkel so it was WIDE (even wider than an XH one) mounted it into the lid of the EF box, reversed the airflow through it and blocked off that hole at the back. Its just like a 20% oversize ED one, stuff all power increase but a noticable increase in throttle response. Should be a pic in my gallery

i did a thread on that. its because atmospheare is being pushed in rather then being sucked. there shouldn't be any real hp increase
