Remove serpentine belt. You remove the tensioner, 3 x 10mm head bolts, you then undo the the bolt holding in the pulley, I think 15mm, remove the pulley and then install is the reverse. Refit belt.

will i need to get new head bolts? iv never done anything like this before, i dont even know how to remove the belt lol

Do yourself a favour and grab a workshop manual. Grab the gregorys one as they seem to be more designed for someone new to cars. It will be the best money you will ever spend. Once you find out how easy it actually is doing a tensioner you will kick yourself. Manuals are dirt cheap sometimes on ebay or just spend the $50 or so at supercrap, trust me that book will pay for itself very quickly seeing most mechanics charge $90/hour. Dont get the ones on cd on ebay, might be a little too vague for your knowledge.
Lastly, everyone has to start somewhere. Read up, grab a shifter and get busy dude. Good luck

i was considering getting one at repco today, i decided not to. iv done a few things my self, HLA, rockers, rocker cover gasket, brake rotors, brake pads, wheel bearings, exhaust, ignition switch, power window regulator and the radiator. most of that i did with out any help i just dont understand how to take the belt off and if i will need new bolts to put the tensioner back on :S im sure it wont be hard to do though

Where are you taking the headbolts out?

The 3 bolts are standard reusable bolts.

You will need a 3/8 drive and it fits into a square fitting in the tensioner arm. Apply pressure and this will take the tension off the belt. Slip it off and you are away.

sorry i miss read what you said earlier, sound simple enough :) i will give it ago when i get a chance, i gotta take my mum to the doctors tomorrow so i probably wont do it then. maybe friday

hey guys, took the tensioner off today, went to replace the idler pulley and noticed the pulleys are fine, they all make a little bit of noise and spin very freely how ever the a/c pump pulley sounds horrid and bearly spins at all, am i able to replace the pull on that or do i need a new pump? oh and the metal repco pulley i got is silent but hardly spins, is that normal?

need a pulley for the A/C compressor...i dont think i can use any pulley..?

To replace the AC Pulley you will need to replace the AC Compressor. AC System will need to be regassed.

Is no one event he slightest bit concerned that some one who can't take a drive belt off and work out how to change a pulley, has worked on their own brake and wheel bearings..............


I'm all for saving some coin and doing your own work, but seriously.

i have a disability ( aspergers i think it spelt ) and some times its very hard for me to understand how things work...even really simple things but some times things like the brakes and bearings and what not i can understand fine. once i had a good look at how it all works it was piss easy to do...just with some things i cant under stand how to do what has to be done with out understanding how everything involved with it works and how all the other parts work with it...this problem has plagued me all my life..ppl not being able to get how such simple things can confuse me and how much harder things, i can work out with no assistance.
