My starter in my XF has died and i want to upgrade it to the later EF/EL one. I have heard these are a better unit. What i am wondering is do these bolt straight in? im led to belive that as they are on the opposite side of the motor on and EL they must be mounted upside down but feel free to correct me on this.

They're a great thing to have as they spin over a lot quicker, ideal when you have a car on LPG that's hard to start.

Aslong as it's the small one Wicksy, and they're also easier to remove and fit because of the size.

Im pretty sure EBII - EL are the same.
Well it was in my case when I put a 2nd hand one in my EL which was from an EBII motor. I think XFs are the same as EA-EBI

I threw one in a straight LPG VN 5.0 once, instead of having to turn it over 3 or 4 times it started first time, second at the most.
All the Bosch starters are the same size now. |

There a great little unit, put one in my xf to replace the brick that was playing up. Almost shat myself when I turned it over first time wasn't expecting it to turn over so quick. They turn the big six over almost quicker than most 4 cylinders do.
Payed about $170 new for mine from the auto leccy. Could proberly get one cheaper, but I was happy cos it got me out of trouble. |

Had an XD that started fine with a normal starter, but wouldn't start with a Hi torque starter. Would have to hotwire the starter under the bonnet. One hit, then the key would kick it over. Ended up dropping in a STD 2 wire type. Figured that there must of been a large voltage drop or some dodgy wiring in there somewhere. Starter worked fine in every other car its been in since... Would've worked if I wired in a relay.. But sooo much effort...
