Gday
Im just wondering what peoples thoughts are on them? From what iv read and seen with dyno charts the EF/EL gains a little more torque through the low-mid range. I have also seen people switch there manifolds on the EF/EL back to the EB/ED manifold and are pulling big numbers. Do you think there is a certain point where the BBM restricts in the high rev range?

Common workshop/backyard theory is that the EB-ED log manifold is better for high rpm figures.
The BBM might loose a RWKW or two at max rpm, but gives huge gains in the midrange in comparison. This old dyno of the same engine fitted with both manifolds pretty much explains it. Cheers BenJ

thats what I was looking for, is this why many people use the old style one for turbo setups as well? keep the flow all the way to redline?

Many choose to use the Log manifold for boosted applications, as runner length has no impact on performance when under boost. From the factory, BA turbos had the runner valves removed from the BBM.
In addition the location of the throttle body makes intercooler piping much simpler and easier to route. I noticed a large improvement in the mid range torque in my Wagon when I installed the BBM. This made for a much better daily drive. Most of your day to day use is the mid range, with the occasional spurt to 5grand or more. It will come down to what you want from your own car. Cheers BenJ

This is my torque curve...ED 4.0 sedan, 5sp man, log maifold.
It is std apart from head work and exhaust..., no cam, v/springs, no oversize valves, no raising compression. The run was done on a hot day of 32*C and 68% humidity.
