check ur oil pressure.. thats all i can think of at the moment.
can u pinpoint the location of the noise?? did u change oil and filter when the head gasket was done |

yeah oil pressure.
Also new lifters can take a fair bit of time to quieten down.

if you have replaced all the rocker gear and are certain that the lifter clearence is correct. it might be chain slap.
when the gasket was replaced if the cam sprocket had been lowed while the head was out, the chain may have droped a tooth on the crank cog. this will cause a loud ticking noise once every revolution of the engine as the chain slaps against the timing cover. i had this problem when i redone my timing chain and tensioner.

oil pressure is good
did 2 engine flushes using wurth product and when we reinstaled the new rocker gear we coated everything with oil additive and used top grade penrite oil and k&n oil filter a couple of the rocker gear bolts puled the tread out so we replaced all the treads with helicoils to be sure timming gear was cabletied to the cog so it couldnt move could it need shims prehaps?

nah they are self adjusting lifters and ive never heard of shims needing to be done. what sort of ticking noise is it, cause ive heard a ticking noise before in a car sounded exactly like valvetrain turned out to be a leaking exhaust manifold gasket.
but from wat your saying its pretty loud so it wouldnt be that were the oil galleries cleaned out when the head was off cause could be lack of oil feed to the top of motor all else fails pull the lifters out give them a clean then soak them in clean oil overnight that way they are primed when you put them in |

If it moved a cog it wouldn't create noise, it would throw the cam timing out which would make it run sluggish. It sounds like you have a prob with oil pressure getting up the top, did you pull the chain tensioner out and blow the oil galleries out through the top and clean the filter on the tensioner? I always blow out the rocker gear galleries aswell as do the block from the top of the deck when i remove a cyl head. |
