Hey guys just after a bit of advice
Fuel pump on my ef fairmont became realy noisy a month or two ago and in the last couple of weeks i started getting quite a bit of power loss and missing. anyway ive just replaced the pump and it now starts beautifully and idles well but under even the lightest acceleration it has quite an epic missfire almost like somone pulled off a lead. I am a little concerned that perhaps if it was running lean for a week or two due to the dodgy pump that i may have damaged an injector? is this possible? I know i should be running through the usual suspects like plugs and leads etc but i cant realy afford to go replacing stuff that i may not need to replace and i cant help but think the problem is fuel related as before the pump went it was running like a dream. any ideas? |

Id say youvr burnt a plug rather then an injector.
When were you're plugs and leads last changed and what's the condition of the leads? Does it miss a lot worse under load, say up a hill? |

yeah it is worse up a hill but its still quite bad even under the tiniest squeeze of the pedal its almost like unless its at idle its a 5 cylinder. When im checking the plugs what am i looking for?
Plugs would have been around 30 thousand k ago and leads are anyones guess. Gonna buy a cheapie multimeter tommorow and eliminate the leads (need one anyaway). Can i check the coil packs with it too? |

Mine was headed for the wreckers when I checked the plugs and found two were fouled. The head is cracked in two cylinders. I swapped the plugs and she is running ok again now.

You can check your injectors quite easily. Pull one injector plug off at a time. Obviously, if idle is fine, it will get worse (6 cylinders to 5). But give it a bit of throttle - where you are experiencing the miss - and if it DOESN'T get worse again (ie, stays at 5 cylinders), you know that injector is causing the problem off-idle.

well i think ive narrowed it down to cylinder 1 as i pulled the number 1 lead off and it made no difference. It does spark when i hold the lead close to the head so i pulled the plug out and it does seem like it could be oil fowled. ill change it tomorow and see what happens

could be a blown intake gasket, but i'd say more likely a stuffed plug or lead. worst case a coil pack on the way out
