Body Electronics Module (BEM), sometimes also known as Body Control Module (BCM).

Give left hand side of steering column a whack.
That's what mine needs sometimes to start.
They suffered from dry solder joints inside (apparently, if other posts are correct).

100% its dry solder joints in the BEM

Just above your left knee, on the dash....give that a little tap if u get in trouble, and it wont crank...

In the long run....you will need to replace the BEM and redo the keys

has anyone thought it could be an intermitant short causing the battery to drain sometimes overnight???? or is this only a problem with older cars?

well i dont know much about bem's but check the brushes in your alternator like they aare like $4 each to replace, loose terminals will drain power or their is a short in your electrics somewhere
