Ok so today another coil pack and tfi module or whatever went on with no improvement.
I then replaced the lead and plugs with no improvement
I then replaced the crank angle sensory with no joy
then replaced the fuel pump and you guessed it no bloody improvement.
While I was there I also replaced the ISC again, map sensor and pressure sensor on rocker cover (had after market one on so put a factory one on)

Pretty much everything now I can think of has been changed except injectors fuel reg and ecu.

I will change the fuel rail, injectors and fuel reg tonight in a last attempt.

After that the only thing I can think of is possibly wacking an auto ecu, doing the resistor trick (as has factory manual ecu in it ATM) and seeing if it is an ecu problem.

If not i am f**k lost as I have changed everything!!

ECU is not chipped is it, rev limiter set at 3500rpm? If not do as suggested by efxr6wagon and swap for a known good ECU and see how it goes.

Well just replaced fuel reg, fuel rail and injectors so along with the fuel pump and filter that is pretty much the fuel side of things all changed and as I have replaced coil pack, ISC, tbs, crank angle sensor, leads, plugs etc etc that seems to be all spark side of things I am at a loss...

I have wired up a plug from an auto car with the resistors needed to trick an auto ecu and will try and get my hands on an ef ecu to test in the car.

Could it have anything to do with the temp sensor near thermostate or even the sensor/ plug in the middle of the bbm (on the side with injectors etc)???

Oh and sorry no the ecu is not chipped, factory manual with no chip.

Also I was thinking when I unbolted the cat and exhaust from the manifold and tried to rev it out with no success, as soon as I unbolted it and revved it out if it was the cat/ exhaust that is the problem it should have revved out as soon as car removed from manifold? As in the car would not have to be driven for an amount of time for the car to sense that the exhaust is no longer on the car and not blocking it if that did so happen to be the problem.

Only thing I can really think of at this time apart from engine begin rebuilt (was told it was 147 000 kms ago) was that a dodgy balancer was fitted that was slipping and someone set the timing off the balancer that might not be showing correct marking (as in balancer slipped inside itself) and now the car is running with horrible timing. Once again I do not think it would be this as car idles okay. Maybe timing is super advanced/ retarded somehow?? Would be pretty hard as you can't adjust timing on ef really without vernier gear??

pull the rocker cover off, get TDC by using a screwdriver or similar in #1 spark plug hole, find the highest point, then see where the timing mark lines up on the cam gear, should be about 3mm above the passenger side of the head

Yeah man cheers, I know how to test tdc and will give that a blast after the ecu.
Hasn't been a priority as I didn't think it was a timing issue

or just find tdc and have a look where the balancer mark is. that will tell you if its out

it wont matter as the toothed gear for crank sensor is on the inner part of the balancer and cant slip..
have you tried cam angle sensor??

yeah but if the cam timing was set up from the balancer mark the cam timing would be out

Hi guys a quick update.
Put an auto ecu and did the resistor trick and still won't rev.

I have been misleading you guys sorry, I meant to say cam angle sensor is what I changed today, I didn't even think about crank angle sensor!! I will grab one from the wreckers tomorrow, along with another coil pack, cam sensor, ecu and maybe another set of leads just to be sure!

Crank angle sensor is the very, very last thing I can think of except somehow the timing being out
If these aren't the problem only thing I can think is to remove exhaust system and let it run a while without it and see if it needed time and running etc for the car to realise or whatever if it was slightly blocked exhaust system.

Pretty much every component that could cause it (multiple times with most bits) has been changed. Never had so much trouble diagnosing/ fixing prob with one of these old girls in a long time.

Would anyone think that crank angle sensor could give these symptoms, I thought it would be more likely to just run like a dog all the time as if the timing was out.
Or could it not be functioning correctly and causing bad timing (advance/ retarding) really bad and holding it up at 3500?

My car did this. It was the transmission. I'd have it looked at.

It's a manual mate so I really doubt it?? What were you thinking transmission side?? Perhaps you know something i don't??
