Hey guys . My first post and I hope I can get some advice . I just purchased a Tickford head for my EF Futura. Is this a straight forward swap with my standard head ? Fuel lines ,exhaust ,wiring and bolt ons?

No , It looks pretty good . I do have a bit of mechanical knowledge and I am very happy with the sueface . Done my dads but it was the original head reco'd and put back on . I must say the seller told me the cam was not standard . There are some numbers on it . I will have a ggod look in the morning and let you know the numbers ,someone may know what they mean. The valves look like they open (come out a long way) . I still hope its ok

Get a pressure test (around $10 a combustion chamber), and a skim.
Surface finish is everything. They can crack between the combustion chamber and the water ports, particularly if they've been cooked. Depends too how much corrosion is around the water ports. You won't be smiling if your oil ends up looking like mayonnaise. If you've bought a valve regrind set, you should have valve stem seals too - change them. Generally, the valves and seats will have some pitting, should be okay, but have a check whilst springs are apart for the stem seals. Too much work in a head change to be guessing on the outcome.

Hey thanks guys . May be all too hard now . The seller told me the head had a cam in it so I googled the numbers on it . 1521A114 . Looks like it may be a bit to much for my car. Now I have purchased another car to do a straight engine swap. Cheers

Agreed,
Apparently the 1521a is a wicked cam (never tried it myself, but from what I've heard) Spend the extra $200 on a pre programmed j3 and you won't be disappointed, my j3 was the best purchase I ever made.

I have just noticed that the engine numbers are in different positions . Can anyone tell me why this is . Fairmont is at the front just near the power steering pump and futura is at the rear behind the flange gasket .
