So, I'm replacing the head on the Ghia http://www.fordmods.com/ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/which-e-series-engine-do-i-actually-have-t121668.html
I am also putting in a billet crow 2519 cam, crow hardened valve springs and Vernier adjustable timing gear. I have pacemaker 4480s to go in too but I need pipes made. The question is should I get the exhaust done first or the head swap? Or is there a good 1 stop shop around Sydney? Anyone know prices to swap head and do new exhaust? I got quoted 500 for head swap and 740 for exhaust with cat at 2 separate shops Thanks again Shay |

I'd go cam and then followed quickly by the exhaust ( as they complement each other ) or even do it all at the same time! CMS are a popular for the Sydney guys!

Don't be afraid to do the head and cam first and then do the exhaust later.
Sure you won't be getting max potential of the head and cam but it's not like it'll actually run like crap - and you WILL notice a big improvement straight up. I ran my JMM cam in this EF for close on 2 years with totally stock exhaust before first putting 3 inch cat back and then 2.5 cat back on it (no extractors yet) - and the SLIGHT improvement doing the cat back has made is nothing compared to the improvement initially fitting the cam made.

If you currently have a standard exhaust system, get that changed before the head is done. I had to put a standard system on my car for EPA reasons and it wouldn't rev past 3500rpm.

Yeah I just called cms. They will do $500 for labour to change the head plus about $150 for other parts (gaskets etc) and $750 for full exhaust with cat and walker mufflers. I will supply extractors. Seems very reasonable to me. Gonna book in once I have some days off work in a row.
It's all coming together finally! Thanks again for all the input Shay |

Thanks again for all the input Shay That seems like a good price! Hopefully it will come together nicely and you'll end up with some decent 1/4 mile times!

So, update:
CMS doing the work for me but its not going as expected.. Water and oil emulsified. Whole engine full of it. Throw away the engine time. New head has been reconditioned by them but work stopped until I decided what to do about the "need a whole new bottom end and rotating assembly" situation. Considering I will keep this car for at least a few years I decided on their recommended route which is to fit a bf engine for about $5k parts (engine) included. This way I will have an engine less that 10yr old. Possibly only 4 if they find a good 1.. Otherwise I was looking at refitting another 18 year old engine again for about $1500 for labour, I supply engine. Obviously the EF parts that I bought will shortly be for sale on this site. Let me know if you want 4480 extractors, Vernier gear, reconditioned xr6 head, crow billet cam |
