hi does anyone know what the minimum thickness is for a ef 4.0 head and also what the original thickness is when new.

The gregorys manual say's to to check head thickness by measuring between three measuring pad's, one on the intake side on # 3 intake port and two on the exhaust side towards the ends. any thing under 1.5mm from pad to gasket surface and the head should be replaced. I wouldn't take this as gospel because plenty of people remove 40 thou to raise compression and probably go less than this measurement.

thanks for your help guys but i found out today that my head is stuffed seems like the previuos owner must have cooked it as she was soft and warped almost 2mm.

just for info sake,,the thickness of the 4 litre and 3.9 heads from top to bottom should be 15 cms
