Hey my EF seems to be really "lumpy" when it idles at the lights. When it acclerates its fine but its really weird when idling.
I think maybe bad fuel cuz thats when I noticed it. Any ideas. |

When you say lumpy, do you mean it sounds a bit like its miss firing? My EL has been doing that lately when idle. Car makes like *puff* noises at the exhast every few random seconds, the idle feels a bit rough from the drivers seat too. Driving on BP ultimate.

Ive got this in my EF aswell...Ive put it down to i need new injectors. I have exhaust and extractors so its quite noticeable when im idling.

my ef 2 had this as well, also engine keeped clicking the thermo fan on and off, i just put in new spark plugs and put a bottle if injector cleaner and it hasn't troubled it yet

Most likely to be your leads, how longs it been since you change the plugs or even cleaned the throttle body? wouldn't be the injectors I think you'd notice it through the whole rev range.

yeh i have noticed that as well in my ef. Except mine like does it around 2k as well. Like you are just about to open it up and it starts missing and s**t. So you guys reckon change the leads and clean the throttle body?
I have done my sparkies like 5000km ago so they should be all good.

Yeah would be a good place to start, if it is missing would most likely be the leads.

my car shuddered if it was held about 2500 to 3000rpm for a couple of seconds. My injectors must have been pretty dirty, oh yeah i also changed the leads as well, any of you guys experienced this, not just at idle???...

I bought a new fuel filter but haven't put it in yet, when i take the old one out is fuel gonna come pissing out? cause it is right near the fuel tank.

If it is missing (intermittant fall in revs), I would look at leads + plugs
If it is loping (regular rise and fall in revs), it would be looking for vacuum leaks, especially around the MAP sensor and intake manifold gasket. Also worth looking at your ISC/IAC and giving that a clean out with some carby cleaner.

Crimp the fuel line on a rubber section between the tank and the filter with a small G clamp this will stop it from leaking whilst you change it. This is how I change mine. Make sure the rubber section is not hard and brittle before doing this.

from memory you disconnect the fuel pump relay then turn the motor over to relieve the system pressure (I completed mine something like this with no problems)

Changing the fuel filter on my mates EF, the lines have a valve in them, so a little bit comes out as you are unscrewing the filter, but that is it.
Just dont tip the filter itself, as it is filled with dirty, gunky s**t. Not pretty!! |

I had this problem too. First, i replaced my plugs, leads and changed my oil. After it still idling rough it turned out to be my crank angle sensor reading an error code so i replaced that and now it runs like a watch.
