Here's somethng I've always found interesting.
The EF has a Dual length intake runner, from the intake pipe, to the throttlebody, seemingly, having had a decent amount of development spent on it. The EL, went to a single rubber elbow pipe, from the intake pipe to the throttlebody, (as seen in the pix below. What I want to know is... 1. Why was this change made? 2. Is there an advantage to the Dual length runners, on this engine? 3. Are they self contained? (don't need any input from the ECU/engine system to actuate, etc) 4. Are they able to be fitted to an EL, in place of the rubber elbow pipe? 5. Would this make any difference to the engine? (positive OR negative)

apparently the el one was made like that to make it cheaper or some BS?
I think people stick BA ones on these days which are similar to the EF one.. |

they not a dual length pipe. they simply split in to two pipes then join back up again. nothing realy special about it at all.
ford could have had any number of reasons for changing it. noise, better flow, cheaper, doesn't matter. you won't notice a difference if you change it |

Use the search function...this topic has been covered
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/el-intak ... ake%20pipe http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... ake%20pipe And if you were wondering about Air Intakes...CAI/Pod/Panel filter stuff...read the following thread. http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... ake%20pipe Please use the search function...I know there may be 60 odd pages of results, but it doesn't take long to read skin through the list to find something similar. phong =P~

I know... and I did use the search function... (I've been here since early early FM MkI) after 2 hours of trawling, I found the following Dual Length (3 results, none relevent) EF Intake (nothing) EF Plenum (nothing) Intake runner ("dual length intake runners and turbos" only, irrelevant) |

You just extended the list one more thread Hope the links helped though. phong =P~

Luckily this thread (if people DO search) now has a definative answer (makes no difference with EF or EL) |

I have seen a dyno sheet of a AU XR6 with an EL intake and EF and the EF made another 3 kw towards the top end.If this is anything to go by the EF is your answer but on the down side they are alot more exspensive to by new and a wrecker one is usually broken.

Get a custom 3" mandrel bent intake with a big 180 bend into the throttlebody. Should be far better than either of them.
I think the EF looks better, but the EL intake would be better if you had a sprayed up/chromed rocker cover or stuff like that... but then again so would the custo intake. |

Seriously do people google "f**k up modifications for Fords owned by Jews" and get linked straight to this site nowadays? AU,factory fitted tickford kit/IRS, t5,Sports ryder/KYB: gone. |

Ford changed the the intakes as a cost saving. There were some flow tests done somewhere., I can't find the results so can't back up what I say, but from memory the EF intake flowed better than the EL unit and if I remember rightly there was stuff all between the EF and the 3" Mandrel pipe. The EF intake can be fitted to the EL but you need the Rocker cover bolts from an EF to mount it. I put an EF Intake on my wifes EL Wagon and I think it now idles better as well as being a little more responsive. This included the top of the EF airbox as these are different to the EL. The reason I changed was for another reason but I think the EF unit looks muck better than the EL.
