i think you should. i was the same as you at first but when the head gasket went i thorght why not. if worst comes to worst you just swap it back, no loss BUT if all goes to plan it will be awsome.
dont get me wrong i have ran into issues and i am only just starting the thing. but i know the end product will be worth it |

good to hear your finially making your mind up. the EB, ED and EL computers go in. my mate is using the EL computer and is running his dash with no probs. i have an EL computer here but i wont be using it unless i can get the smartlock bits OR a smartlock eliminator.
my car isnt running yet. its ready to go back togather but i need to buy new head bolts and some more gaskets, oil and oil filter. i will be removing the oil tomorrow to flush the system due to the water in the oil. im happy to help out with any info, but at the current moment i havnt tested the RPM switch |

Its good to see someone is having the same dramas as me. I'm in the middle of an EL motor & tranny into an ED. A few things I found is you cand use the single belt drive from the EL with the earlier style manifold cause the ac compressor is too high, tried the old adaptor plate to drop ti down but the bet will not fit. So now I'm going to use the BBM manifold and the EL wiring loom and ecu the only thing I'm having trouble with is the wiring under the dash so can anyone help.

the EL has the extra wire to switch the BBM (im currently planing on using the RPM switch i bought with the EA/EB computer)
you dont need to use the whole EL loom. read the thread in my sig to see the wires you need to change on the stock EA-ED MPFI loom. its only one plug (mine was 3 plugs but wernt done by me but i redone the wireing on them) the serpintine belt on the EF EL and AU have different timing chain cases so thats why the old belts brackets dont fit. if you wish to change to the old style belts then you will have to strip the motor to do so. my recomendations are either 1. use the BBM with RPM switch or 2. lose the aircon. mine currently has NO aircon setup but i will be putting it on |

hi
actually you can use the eb 3 belt set up .. im using the 3 belts on a au engine in my ea so i guess the el wouldnt be much different.. but you do have to modify a couple of things but it works fine.. im still using the ea alternator, waterpump, powersteer pump, harmonic ballancer and air con .. but if you dont like to modify things to much you can do a timing case swap ... |

also remember that the EA-ED altinators are like 65amp and the EF's are 110amp and the EL are 100amp, so if your running a big stereo try and keep the EF/EL altinators.
if anyone in QLD removes the EF/EL acessories off their motors then ill buy them |

Thank you for the replies but I just found out that the wire needed for the bbm switch is number 15 on the EL computer and the thermo fans are on numbers 33 & 53 so I'm going to run the ED mpfi wiring plus hopefully these extra 3 wires to make it all work using the EL computer.

you will still have to use relays like the EL wiring does. I'm trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by trying this set up. It might do away with the RPM switch at the same time and save a few dollars on parts that aren't needed.

Use an XH tensioner, as it suits serpentine accessories with the EA-ED intake manifold, but they can be hard to find. apparantly i got the only one in victoria Fordster, if your going to use the serpentine acessories and the BBM, i suggest you use an EL ECU, that way you get proper thermofan control, not the half a*** way its done otherwise. Youll need to drop an MPFI Dizzy in and run a couple of extra wires but its the easiest and cleanest way of getting it all to run (Properly) The biggest problem i see is that your EA is non smartlock, so you will either need to source a smartlock bypass box (Which NO ONE knows how to get) get an EL BEM and ignition/lock set and run the extra wires
