How ya goin guys, bitta background im new to all this only 16, bought my first car just recently and seeing everyone around me has VR commodores e.t.c i thought id get an EF ( and because its my mums so bita mates rates). i would greatly appreciate any advice you may have to give. to help me spend the money ive saved for modifying my car.(right now everything is standard)

extractors and exhaust:

what are the best options for headers? size brand?
is 2.5' exhaust the best option?
should i smash out the cat so its free flowing?

Air intake:

POD/ K&n panel filter ??

i think im leaning toward pod as i dont have alot of $ and the snorkel and new K&N filter is a bit expensive ( but only if the pod will give me same power)

if i do go pod filter, wat type? should it be in the original air box or can i some how get it recieving cold air from the small hole wich is part of the bumper with a tube or sumn?

Lowered:

is it best getting springs cut n s**t, or should i buy new springs?

and is my car series 2?? it was made september 1995

cheers any ways hopefully with you guys help i can get her goin sick.

Hey mate, have a read of the sticky, you might find some useful information.

I reckon keep the stock air filter, but buy yourself an EL GT or AU XR8 snorkel - they're only cheap.

Don't punch out the cat, it's illegal.

Get a cam. Spend a bit of cash on a big cam and valve springs, along with the extractors and exhaust and you will absolutely smah your mates commodores.

Don't cut your springs, buy some new lowered one's they don't cost that much.

to lower your car cheaply you can pick up xr6 springs cheap, or get aftermarket ones second hand. cut springs are s**t and dangerous.

Dont punch out the cat, the stock one flows better than many aftermarket ones

if you get a pod fit it in your airbox, its not hard and you wont be sucking in hot air

I just paid $114 for a pair of King Lows through Hiteck Brakes - also got some slotted rotors and braided lines. They look after Fordmods members.....drop em a line.

Contact details are under the forums tab.

1st 'power' mods are usually the full exhaust system or k&n panel filter with some sort of cold air or bigger snorkel. i've done both of these to mine and it instantly picked up more power. it cost me just under $900 for the extractors/highflow cat/2.5in system, and the k&n was free cause i kept it off my old ef.

i also lowered my car, $480 incl. shocks with king superlow springs. i fitted it myself, it's easy to do if you have a bit of mechanical knowledge.

if you wanna lower it, a good and cheap option is to get them compressed. Its usually about $50-60 per spring and it'll still have a fairly smoothe ride. Aftermarket springs like King are good, but are more performance orientated and dont have a progressive spring rate, making them a bit harsh during normal driving. But if you had the standard springs compressed, you'd still have the benefit of a progressive spring rate... and it'll look sweet too

Leave the punched out cats and chopped springs for the ricers and commodores.

They have no place on a falcon.

I recently put in a K&N pod filter, fits nicely in the current box. All I had to do was take the bracket off the top of the box, and the current hose has some give in it so it fit straight in there. I put photos in my gallery.
