OK so lots of searching and reading on here ; tells me a couple of things.
Air lock in the cooling system Maybe thermostat on the way On the NORMAL scale it got up to the "O" - was 36 degrees outside with the AC on - stayed there came back down for a bit back up there. I stopped at a servo and let it rest and it got back down to the "A" and was OK for a bit then off it went again Power is OK, driving as per normal seems fine. Not a BHG I am hoping. I've bought coolant and a new thermostat to put in - so doing that today - along with brakes too Any other suggestions? As its an EF it will have the eleventy billion relays for the sixty three trillion fan speeds which I've not buzzed out with the multi yet - but yes the fans are coming on strong. |

id prob get your radiator flow tested, might have small blockage cause increased temp

If your replace the thermostat I would also remove the radiator and give a good flush and clean.

My ed with air con on only gets out to the " n " and that is the highest it has ever been, Normal driving with air con off it don't get up to the n at all..

possilely air in the radiator try filling it up when cold and then leave the radiator cap off and just let it idle for a while will start to bubble if there is air in the radiator and just let it go till it stops bubbling

looks like i've solved it.
its 36 out side (when i did my test drive) AC on it sits at the A and then occasionally goes up to M then comes back down to A this is the behaviour as previous i suspect an airlock in the cooling system was the culprit. i did do the thermostat also. i have a custom made air compressor attachment which rams air and water into the radiator hoses - i use this to flush. for the moment, things seem fine. will monitor for a few days and report back. note : make sure your heater tap is open when you do your cooling system flush too. i have climate control so with the ignition to reds and the climate control on H and up to 32 degrees should have that heater tap open |

FORDdom - check your gauge sender. if possible get a multimeter with thermocouple attached to it and get a 2nd opinion on your gauge. factory gauges in my experience (sorry fellas with holdens) are there as a 'best guess' - my VL turbo going around corners too hard the gauges 'creep' hehehehe. Must be why they do liquid filled ones perhaps?

my temp was fluctuating (sp?) alot so i did coolant and thermo, just the standard one and now if i just start it and drive it will get up to A but then go down to the O, if i let it warm up it wont do this at all, i figure its just the engine reaching operating temp or something.

its the thermostat opening and closing thats all hence the variation
it was 46.5 on the way home from work today. my temp got to the R in NORMAL. on the way to work this morning 16 degrees it would go up to M then sit at A - and cycle between the two. |
