hey guys,
long time no see. i had a problem develop saturday night which has got me stumped. symptoms are: temp gauge died, just sits at bottom. thermo fans r stuck on as long as ignition is on performance is severly lowered- feels/sounds like its gonna blow up at 3500rpm exhaust crackeling like a v8 supercar under gentle deceleration ie. when i lift my foot off throttle. first throught was dead coolant temp sensor so i changed that, no difference. i then noticed my J3 chip was hanging half in half out of the ecu (still waiting for final tune so i didnt put case back on) im concerned that i could have shorted the ecu or the j3 chip. i have just disconnected the battery to reset the ecu just incase that helps. air con diagnostics reads that the engine temp sensor and the coolant temp sensor are faulty (errors 7 and 8 i think) anyone got any thoughts? cheers, Adam |

if your j3 was half in half out, that could and most likely would make your electronics go stupid, try and plug the j3 in and see if it makes a difference, if not take it out and see if that makes a difference, i no of people having trouble with a dirty inlet on a j3, so defiantly worth having a muck around with that

wouldn't have a clue mate, never had much experience with ecu so i dont no how sensitive they are, try running the car with out the j3 and see if it has the same symptoms

yeah seemed the same so i assume ive blown the chip
is it possible that i shorted the ecu and its only effected the coolant temp sensor and engine temp sensor? or would the car not run at all? |

problem solved thanks to paul from CVE and 4dlvr
turned out i shorted out the J3. pulled it out and symptoms stopped. thankfully paul saves everyones tunes so its not gonna be costly to fix. |

Make sure it's installed properly, as per the instructions, with a thick bit of gaffa or duct tape to keep it on the socket. Last thing you want is it coming off on a bumpy road.
