Maybe a fault with the cam angle sensor located where the distributor would normally be in a non coil pack engine.

i cleaned the connection but it made no difference, it has a timing chain noise so was just wondering if its stripped the timing cog or jumped a tooth or two

Need ideas guys as i've missed a days work already so far trying to figure this out Power to the coil pack doesn't mean s**t. 4pin connector from memory, 1 will be battery voltage the other 3 are earth reference triggered by the ECU. Check the other 3 wires first to make sure your getting the earth trigger from the ecu while cranking...

i had cam chain noise which was due to one of the plastic tensioners breaking and dropping down, the chain was rubbing on the timing case.
its a pain in the buttocks to change aswell
