Nah its not hard but alot easier with the throttle body removed (just the 4 allen bolts)

Im gonna take that sensor out aswell, will the throttle body need a new gasket after taking it off?

They normally come off clean, just take it slow and pry off gently, If it is damaged some silastic will do the job when refitting. Its only a cardboard gasket and its not hard to make one out of a weet bix packet if you do get stuck.

you losing coolent? sounds like if you give it a boot full its clearing out something or sealing up a gasket.

With my ef when it started running a bit rough I thought it was an ignition problem, so changed plugs and leads, that fixed the issue for about a week, then I lost a LOT of fuel economy in around town driving, down from an average 610km/tank to 300km/tank.

Changed the oxy sensor, the coolant temp sensor and the intake air temp sensor and that fixed the economy problem for a fortnight, then my coilpack died.

Once that was replaced the car has been running beautifully until this last week when I've noticed I've got a head gasket leaking coolant at the rear of the block, so now it's time to get a new batch of tools and change a headgasket.

Sigh, I love cars, but sometimes they're enough to drive you to frustration!

So do boxcars (EA-ED) have IAT sensors?

I would be looking at your coolant temp sensor first. The ecu uses the reading for rich start up mode when the motor is cool.
