just buy a set of new ones to suit ef...
if you use au/ba pistons you need to use au rods |

TROYMAN wrote: just buy a set of new ones to suit ef... if you use au/ba pistons you need to use au rods I had hypatec cast piston but had a valve drop and destroyed no.6 piston, so I'm looking at the 4.0 intech acl piston with a flat top. So all I need to use is the au rods to be able to use au pistons? And I can keep my ef crank? |

Conrod bearings are the same from 4.1l to 4.0 Barra including Turbo. So you will have no issue fitting AU rods and pistons. You can't fit an AU Crank to an EF/EL Engine. Main Bearings are different, AU is 67.481mm to 67.505mm, EF is 60.914mm to 60.935mm. AU has much larger Main Bearings as you can see. |

The issue we are trying to sort out is the ef piston has a compression height of 25.5mm and the au piston is 30.88mm so in saying that are the au Rods different in length ? Does anyone have some specs on the two rods? |

AU rods are different length than E series rods. tickford_6 has a thread on the differences. fordmods-technical-documents-diy-f38/a-look-at-the-sohc-4l-engine-in-detail-t85150.html |

It doesn't have the different lengths, just states they are different

Here is a side-by-side view of an EF and BA LPG piston.
The Gudgeon pin sizes are the same, but the compression heights are different because the rods are longer on the AU/BA/BF. From what I can work out, the later rods are like the old 200 rods....longer than the 250/4.0 rods.
