my ef needs a new radiator
have seen some on ebay with aluminium cores for around $150 has anyone tried these? any feedback to share? will they rust out quicker? (because aluminium will rust out first in the presence of steel - electrolytic(sp?) effect) also, got a quote from the local radiator place, they can supply a "natrad" one, with copper core, for around $220. Any reason to go with this over the ebay ones? Or other ideas?

Factory radiators AFAIK are aluminium ... and they do rust out (especially the auto ones) between thet radiator and the internal transmission cooler.
I suggest getting a copper core radiator.

They must of skimped on the later models then I guess ... as AU-onwards radiators are aluminium.

Go for copper if cost is not the deciding foactor.

have a look around for a adrad radiator, they have 1 piece end tanks not two halves joined together so they are less prone to spliting down the join.
i was told to stay away from the alloy ones cos the alloy tubes are prone to cracking after a while.

I got an upgraded one from NatRad ... they sourced me an ADRAD twin core (copper) radiator for the ute.
Was $275 inc. GST ... and bloody hell it keeps it cool ... will be good for heavy load work in Summer now. Normally it runs at 94 deg C (diagnostic mode) ... but cruising it now sits around 87-89 deg C ... takes a little longer to warm up on the cool morning .. but that's not too bad really. I run an auxilliary trans cooler in front as well to aid in cooling as well.

i was told to stay away from the alloy ones cos the alloy tubes are prone to cracking after a while. That is what I put in a EB. The alloy ones from China also are known for not cooling the tranny as good. Pay the extra $30 odd dollars for the cooper one. |

I used an aluminium radiator in my EB, it was either from ebay or ozeparts - can't remember.
The thing rusted out within about 6 months, not good. Get a copper one! |

ally actually cools quicker than copper but won't last as long with fatigue & electrolytic resistance etc.
i got a copper adrad 5ltr taxi radiator, can't remember how many cores it actually has i think it's tripple. if not double at least, paired with a davies craig 16" thermo i can't get it hot if i try. even on the spot action never goes over half way on the stock guage.
