Hey guys,

My car idles roughly (excessive vibration, 650rpm) when in D with the AC on, but when I put it into N the revs come up to 700rpm, and the vibration stops!

This has really only started happening since I've done exhaust mods etc.

What can I do to correct this?

Is it possible for me to adjust the idle MANUALLY (when in D with AC on) up 50 rpm somehow, or will I have to take it to a Ford dealer to reset the Idle Speed Controller / ECU etc?

I have followed the ECU resetting procedure posted on this site, but this doesn't help at all.

Sorry guys, but I'm stumped on this one ...so any suggestions would be great!

there is a screw on the inlet manifold side of the engine which you twist to adjust the idle speed. You will find it, if you follow the accelerator cable to the end. It requires a flat head screw driver to adjust it.

Perhaps it's your idle control solinoid. The ICS adjusts the revs for things like the AC when it is on so as to maintain a constant idle......I think?

They are about $50 bucks from the wreckers or about $150 brand new.

Cheers Partie!

Will I definitely have one on my EF?

Wouldn't happen to have a photo of where it's located, would you?

Could be, I haven't had them cleaned since I bought the car about a year ago ...and who knows how long before that?

Could dirty injectors cause rough starting on hot days too? (another niggling prob I have)

Hey Partie,

I think I've found it, is it like a little grub-screw with a flat-head screwdriver groove?

If so, I've got a little problem because the top of the screw has snapped off on one side of the groove ...so I can't use a screwdriver on the bastard!
