Hey guys,

As the title states, my EF engine has created a slight surge under cruising acceleration over the last week. I changed the TPS, and the MAP, and the fuel filter. I thought this fixed it, but after a longer drive today, it appears its still there.

Could this be the injectors needing a service? Or even the oxy sensor?

The car in question is an EBII, with complete EF Fairmont eninge, full loom, ecu, and EB T5, all with 177XXX on the clock.

Any help is great,
Thanks guys,

Andrew.

mine did the same for a while, yesterday it cut out and it now doesn't start. The clip on the dizzy cap fell off, so timing is out and rotor is gone.

Bummer. Well i won't have that problem, as i am running the EF coilpacks. I don't think mine will have anything to do with timing or spark, but i could be wrong.

:)

i noticed you did fuel filter but did you do air filter it could be vacuum leak(spray manifold with carby cleaner and see it idle changes. maybe clean Idle control valve and reset base idle.

are you going threw fuel? is engine running hotter than usual?

how old your spark plugs and leads?
plug gaps?

theres a few idea hope that helps

I fitted a new air filter when i did the conversion a few weeks ago, as well as plugs.

I'm not sure how old the leads are, but will replace them this week. The car does not run hot, or chew through fuel. Also i checked for vac leaks, and all is well.

I didn't think to look at the ICS though, do i just pull this off and clean with carbi cleaner or something?

I will fit some leads and clean the ICS and see how it goes.

Thanks dudes.

I'm not sure if it could cause any surging...but could it be the transmission fluid being low?

Does the engine rev but the car just doesn't go? if so I think you should check the transmission fluid as well while you're at it.

phong =P~

I also had this thought, but wouldn't it surge on hard throttle aswell?

I will do a pressure check on it this week and check this also. If the pump is stuffed, i think i can use the one out of the EF. pretty sure they are interchangable?

Andrew.

yes they are interchangable but replace the pump only as the fuel senders are different..

I don't know if this is the same thing, but my ef auto had the same problem... it was surging a tiny bit on light accelleration, then the idle was terrible (as i've read here before), i changed everything you could imagine on the car, and my last resort was my ECU. Sure enough, i changed that and it runs sweet as. But then again that was my last resort.

i also had a surging problem after converting an au engine into my ea and i changed all the sensors/injectors/plugs ect and the last thing was the ecu and it pretty much has no surging at all now..

i've seen this happen on an eb it started and idled fine but on light throttle especially when cold it surged alot and it was dodgy leads. just a thought but could be something entirely different with yours.

Hmmm,

I might borrow my mates ecu and see what happens.

I heard today though that when you replace the TPS, your supposed to reset the TPS voltage?? Is this true???

Seeing as though i have today off work, i decided to clean up the ICS and then do a base idle check.

Turns out my base idle is too high, so i fixed this up, now my car won't idle when back together and out of diag mode.

Could this have been my ICS has been stuffed all along? Should i change it?

It seems like the only thing wrong, as it should be idling?

Andrew.
