Used the EA mounts for certain. Asked about this before undertaking.

Sadly I now have new information about this topic, so it can be talked about again.
Unfortunately its not good or positive news.

Only that the EF I have, will not fit under the bonnet of an EA, with EA mounts.
Id love to know why!

Ill take some this arvo mate. Specifically for the forum.
I guess one thing I know that is slightly different is that my car is a "Tickford" 30.

Not a genuine tickford but the EA that had the Wings with the 30 badge. Not sure if that means anything or not. - shouldnt.

Just postulating on a theory at the moment.

What if the previous owner of the EA broke a mount, and only had later model engine mounts to replace them with. The EA would still fit fine. But would prevent the later engine fitting.

But with only 150k kms on the car, and a stock EA motor, I doubt it broke a mount.

Ill take a close up of the EF mounts that have not been used.

Is there a difference between the 3.9L and the 4.0L K frame in the EA?

We deffo used the EA mounts but from a 3.9L engine.. This car, apparently has an angle on the K frame close to 45 degrees where other EA's he has seen has an angle with only 10-15% angle. (similar to the EF)

I think I have parroted this back properly. I have no idea what he is on about.

the winged badge with the 30. is a 30th aviversay falcon badge. not tickford..

the k frame, engine mounts. engine block hights are all the same from 1988ea to 1994 ed..
just to add. the ef mounts will physically locate the engine the will not bolt up anyway..

Yeah.. I know its not a Tickford, thus written as "Tickford" for lack of better way to describe the wings on the badge.

Ill get pics straight after work. will probably have to post tomorrow.

just out of curiosity, have you got your trans/gearbox mounted? if not that could be allowing the engine to tilt back

Here's some photos of my car. With the bonnet open about 150mm above the headlights, there's still +150mm clearance above the rocker cover. Only part of the rocker cover protrudes above the guards.

I'm wondering how the bonnet closed before as the 3.9 & 4.0L engines are identical in height.

So, logically, we just went and put the standard EA log manifold on. That should work right?
And maybe in some magical world where unicorns f@rt rainbows and puppies and kittens 'n sh|t, it would have been fine. But in the world I live, the god damn air conditioner pump wouldnt fit! FML!

So, logically we look at the air co pumps (seems right) so we spent hours swapping the pulley over to fit the old EA air co pump. The son of a b**ch fits, but the pulley doesnt line up.

You need to use the EF/EL AC Pump.

The only solution I am left with now is to buy an idler pulley to replace the air conditioner, and hope to hell the prick fits!

This is not even yet addressing the conversion requirement from Coil pack back to dizzy (no problems so far as this was anticipated) and also the installation of thermo-fans needing further parts and mods.

I guess my advice is that if you're going to do this conversion, and you find the bonnet doesn't fit... RUN A MILE! (or have a EB GT bonnet sitting around)

WANTED... EB GT bonnet!

EB Bonnet is no different to the EB stock bonnet. The vents were just bolted on.

Have you checked the transmission has seated properly-its the only thing I can think of that would give the engine that angle, john.
