Discovered today, during the transplant that the EF manifold wont fit under the EA bonnet. Anyone else found this?
Going to have to use the bloody EA intake :/ |

I put and EF engine & BBM in my EA without any clearance problems and reused the EA engine mounts.

I've also done it with no hassles. 89 model ea swapped with complete 94ab.

Well I dont aim to correct anyone, or even call anyone liars so please take this statement to heart.
However, in the case of my conversion, and I accept that my case may be one of the rare one off cases (still yet to determine why) but MY EF MOTOR DID NOT FIT UNDER THE BONNET OF MY EA! -I am fking SPEWING! Because this has caused so much drama. We have been doing this for 5 days now, and it really should have taken 2. This is a lot when you're working on your work car and borrowing someone else s car to get to work because what should be, isnt So, logically, we just went and put the standard EA log manifold on. That should work right? And maybe in some magical world where unicorns f@rt rainbows and puppies and kittens 'n sh|t, it would have been fine. But in the world I live, the god damn air conditioner pump wouldnt fit! FML! So, logically we look at the air co pumps (seems right) so we spent hours swapping the pulley over to fit the old EA air co pump. The son of a b**ch fits, but the pulley doesnt line up. None of these little surprises lead to quick and easy fixes. The only solution I am left with now is to buy an idler pulley to replace the air conditioner, and hope to hell the prick fits! This is not even yet addressing the conversion requirement from Coil pack back to dizzy (no problems so far as this was anticipated) and also the installation of thermo-fans needing further parts and mods. I guess my advice is that if you're going to do this conversion, and you find the bonnet doesn't fit... RUN A MILE! (or have a EB GT bonnet sitting around) WANTED... EB GT bonnet! |

Is the engine not fitting due to its height or width? I used all the accessories from the EF engine and kept the serpentine belt setup. If you do it this way, you need to get a new aircon hose made up to fit between the firewall and EF aircon compressor.
Also, the bottom radiator outlet is bigger on the EA. I used a flared piece of stainless steel tube and joined EA and EF radiator hoses together. Otherwise you need to use an EF/EL radiator & reservoir (or get one custom made radiator). Reuse the Bosch EA distributor as it's more reliable than the Chinese ones you buy now. The distributor may be fiddly getting it in the right positon under the BBM. There's a limited amount of space to advance/retard it.

It does, so left that right alone. Did reuse the EA dizzy, bought a new cap. (the other one was flogged out and even seized in the centre) Mechanical timing should be correct, as the guy fitting it has done many engine swaps, just not this mongrel job. Have access to a timing light too. Even knowing what you're doing, we have been set up for a comedy of errors. Its not fkn funny I can tell you. The idler pully and bracket is $180. So paying $180 to NOT have air co. p****d off. |

I had a 3.9 MPFI engine. Have you got an EL ECU to operate the BBM and thermo fans? I left the EA TCM to control the shift points for the BTR auto. For the engine loom, I modifed the EA loom.
It took about 2-3 months to finish my conversion Approx. how much extra space do you need to close the bonnet?

Suppose you just want to slap me for sooking about 5 days. Has EL ecu with J3 chip. |

Ive been shown where it hits and its quite close to the front.. perhaps only 1/4 of the way up the bonnet. |
